I haven't seen a post about the using the special on-property special fastpasses yet. Just got back from a stay 6/3 - 6/6 at the Grand Cal. We were issued 2 fast passes/person at check-in, though we had to remind the person checking us in to give them to us. Almost walked away without them, but my brother reminded me to ask before I did. Whew!

Passes are good until 9/11/11 and work on any fastpass ride plus the Little Mermaid. According to the passes, you do not need to show a room key or anything to use them so we saved some of ours for later in the summer.

I think the best use is Star Tours. On Monday, a non magic morning day, they had the fastpass line available for hotel fast passes right at the open. Since regular fastpasses aren't issued yet, this meant pretty much no waiting. So a good strategy would be to line up at rope drop on a non magic morning day and make a bee line for Star Tours with your hotel fastpass in hand. We did go for Sunday's MM, but it didn't seem like the fastpass line was open during MM. On a MM, best to get there about 20-30 minutes early so you can be one of the first people on. Of course, I add the disclaimer that the way they operate the hotel fastpass could change at any time. We checked the fastpass wait on Sunday evening about a half an hour before the fireworks, and it was around 45 minutes. It's not altogether a bad thing to wait in at least the queue inside the building, as it's thoughtfully done, and there are lots of interesting things to see.

For us, we didn't use the special fastpasses on Little Mermaid as the ride was open for hotel guests starting at 9am (for a 10am open, need to show a room key), and the ride was a walk-on until 9:30am when they started letting non-resort guests onto the ride. So unless you can't get over to DCA by 9am, I would save the special fastpass for other rides. Definitely worth using if you can't get there by 9:30, at least it was this weekend. The line looped through the paradise pier WOC viewing area and had multiple switchbacks. Very exposed and was running 2+ hours throughout a lot of the day. I doubt that will continue the whole summer though. It's a very fast loader and doesn't make you want to ride it over and over again like the Star Tours ride with it's different scenario possibilities, though we did think it was very cute and rode it a couple of times. When the line dies down, we'll probably hit it very visit.

Great info,donut! Thanks!

Thank You!:worship: We are checking into the DLH on Sunday and this was very helpful in planning my strategy! :thumbsup2

So does everyone who stays at a Disney Resort get the fastpasses, or do you have to book under the special deal? We have two stays this summer, and I could only rebook one under the new summer deal because the GCH was sold out on the other trip.

It must be everyone - we're DVC and stayed at the VGC. Definitely didn't book under a special deal!

Have fun, Star Tours is great!

If you only have one shot at Star Tours and you're trying to use the special fastpass, you might want to send one person ahead to make sure the fastpass line is operating before you commit to bypassing the standby line. On Monday (yesterday) the standby line started by the Corn Dog wagon and if you didn't get into that mob early, you were facing a pretty serious line. If the fastpass entrance wasn't open, you'd be stuck.

Thank you for posting this information!

So based on what you said, it sounds like at DCA, we should be there at 9 am to ride the Little Mermaid, then go over to Soarin' and line up for the 9:30 am opening, then afterward get in line for TSMM. Does that seem like an appropriate plan? (We don't need WOC Fastpasses, as we're doing the special lunch at Wine Country Trattoria).

Thanks for the info:thumbsup2, now I have a couple questions...
The FASATPASS line for ST was a 45min wait?:scared1:

What time did they let you in to DCA?
Did you use the GCH entrance?
What time did you get in line to enter the park-DCA?
Did they start to give FP for ST at the ride itself?

I am trying to use your strategy for LM, and save the special Fastpass.:woohoo:

I think that would work provided you could get off Soarin in time for DCA rope drop. We just got Soarin fastpasses (and WOC since they're unconnected ) and went straight to rope drop for TSMM. It was still pretty crowded at TSMM despite all the people in line for Little Mermaid.

Yes, the fastpass line for ST in the evening was 45 minutes. The standby was around 125 at that time, IIRC.

We entered DCA through the Grand Cal entrance around 9:15 (after doing MM starting at 7am at DL). That was plenty of time to ride Little Mermaid with no line, send a runner to grab Soarin and WOC fastpasses, and line up for rope drop to power walk for TSMM opening. By the time we got off Little Mermaid, they were letting the general entrance crowd line up for Little Mermaid. I think it was around 9:40am. It was a busy day!
There was no line at the GCH to enter DCA at 9:15. I was surprised by this, and it was a good thing or we may not have made it to LM in time if there was. Maybe everyone was at MM at DL?

On the non MM day (Monday), they were definitely giving out FP for ST at opening. I'm sorry, but we didn't notice whether the machines were on during MM on Sunday. At 7:45, the line for ST was only 15 minutes so half our party rode again (we had to do child swap), while the rest of us did Peter Pan (5 minutes). At this point, the people in our party that did ST said it became very difficult to get out of Tomorrowland to join us in Fantasyland. The ST line is clearly sucking up a lot of the people at the park. Fantasyland in general was great on Sunday MM/regular morning. We did Peter Pan and Alice, then the rest of our party joined us and we all did Matterhorn both sides, Nemo, and monorailed to DTD before going to GCH DCA entrance. Now that I've seen the line for LM, I definitely wouldn't cut it so close timing wise for catching the LM early opening. If we had just missed a monorail, we would have been hosed.

Thanks Donut!! I'm enjoying a donut as I'm enjoying reading posts from the donut:love: All your info is AWSOME!! I wish I could tour like you. But with my two young boys and grandmother this trip, I will have to plan something without much park hopping.
I think you're totally right on MM, the the resort guests will head to DL and the GCH entrance will not be busy. :thumbsup2
With all the new attractions, how did you find the lines for the other rides, besides MM hours?

I've got 2 young ones myself, but the grandparents ditched us by Sunday so that did help. Not that they're really that slow, but any time you add more people to your party, it does seem to get more cumbersome. Plus, the grandparents gave us their special fastpasses so we're awash in them. ;)

The rest of the park was pretty good in the morning, but as the day wore on and people got out of the ST or LM line, it got impressively crowded. We started moving to high capacity rides or shows, like MuppetVision and the Disney Dance Crew show. First time for me for both those things.

For those with little ones, I'll also throw out there that the new parade has no show stops whatsoever, so I think that any place that you have a good view is a good place to watch. We walked up to the Main St. RR station about 10 minutes before the 2nd parade of the day started and got positions against the railing. Great for the kids and parents (no need to lift them or hoist them on your shoulders for a good view). And of course for the 2nd show, it starts on that side of the park, so not too much waiting. I thought it was perfect from the parent point of view. Maybe the only downside was that the parade performers didn't wave at the kids up there, mostly only to the ones down on street level, but me and my aching back will take that. Love the new parade - very colorful, great music, and high energy though the last float was the chimney sweep one and felt like an odd ending.

Thank you for posting all of your information, Donut! :thanks:

I absolutely agree with you Donut. We were there June 4-8. We did not make the morning little mermaid opening; however, we found if you went right before WOC started, then the line was short. We waited 15 minutes Saturday night, and then 25 minutes Tuesday Night ( a day the park was significantly more crowded). DD (5) would not ride ST, so I rode it twice and DH rode it 4 times. Each time it took us 20 minutes from the time we got into the line, until the time we exited the ride. We never had much of a wait with the FP. You must have just hit it at the wrong time Donut.

When we were there the only other ride that was running out of Fast passes early was SM. The others it seemed like we could easily get regular Fast Passes throughout the day instead of using the resort ones
