I just found out that the condo we're staying at in New Smyrna Beach (b4 we head over to Disney)is having the sea wall rebuilt and we are now being told that we could hear jackhammering and won't be able to walk out onto the beach from the property like we had expected. Well THAT's why I booked --to walk right onto the beach from our room and hear nothing but ocean, not jackhammering!!!
I'm really angry and feel like I should have been notified about this. Our vacation is 10 days away and I just found out by calling the booking office since they have yet to send me any info re key pick up. I got the "oh, by the way..."
I can't imagine a hotel telling anyone that construction is happening--it's just the luck of the draw, right? But shouldn't a privately owned condo notify you?
Just wondering what you think I should do. I've been saving for this vacation for years and cannot imagine jackhammering and scaffolding in this dream.
TIA!!

can you still cancel?

then do it.

sounds like this construction would really hurt your stay.

but no - they don't have to tell you anything. Disney use too - but lately since they got so many complaints when they told guest - they haven't been telling guests when something is happening.

florida has so much construction that it will happen when you are there.

was at the HGVC at SW once when construction was going on. since seeing construction is not something I get to see everyday - we enjoyed watching them put up the building next to us.

guess alot of this is your attitude.

if you have already decided you will hate it. then if you can cancel it.

however if there is a chance you might still enjoy the experience - then go for it.

You're right. I could and should look at it and say, "my kids might think it's cool seeing how a seawall gets rebuilt or repaired"
I'm really trying. I can't imagine canceling on these people. I hate to back out of anything once I've given my word. Thanks for helping me look at it differently.
I love this board..

I totally agree. We stayed at HGVC International Dr. when there were only 2 buildings completed and our unit overlooked the construction of the 3rd building. It was actually quite interesting to watch, and I now realize why it sometimes takes SO long for buildings to be completed. :rotfl2:

I'm ok with construction at a property, just as long as it doesn't wake me up too early in the morning. It's not pretty when I don't get much sleep! :scared1:
