Hello everyone,

My name is Jeremy and and I'm getting ready to start planning a honeymoon in April to Disney. I've stayed at POFQ and SSR before. I liked SSR but it was missing the Disney touch that I love so much when I go down there.

Right now, I have a few ideas. I really love what I've seen of the Boardwalk as well as the Wilderness Lodge. Can anyone who has stayed in these give me some reviews or advice about these hotels. Any other Deluxe hotel ideas are welcome if you have any. I really want that Disney feel to the hotel. Thanks in advance for your help.

Jeremy

Congrads on the upcoming honeymoon!
My wife and I have been married for 32 years and have gone on a number of anniversary trips to WDW. IF you want quiet and romantic you can't beat Wilderness Lodge.
When you go make sure you tell the CM at the check in desk it's your honeymoon and ask for the wedding ears and button for you and your spouse. You will get some nice attention with those, We always have with the anniversary button. Also make sure you always mention that you are on your honeymoon when you make dining times.
If you got to eat at the Crystal Palace in the MK make certain you tell them there ;you will get a nice surprise at your table. For our last anniversary we told the CM at the check in table and we found a big heart made up of Mickey confetti on the table Winnie made a special stop at our table. Hope you have a great time

WL is nice. so is AKL.

love Polyn too, as well as the BC.

but for really Disney - value resorts - Pop Century and All Star Movie - have much more Disney stuff.

If we were just starting our life together and wanted to make a memory, it would heve to be Wilderness Lodge. The resort is so quaint, serene and peaceful. The grounds are impeccable and the trail to FW is a great strolling place to spend an evenings walk before a wine cheese foray at the pool. Courtyard views of the pool, sitting on your balcony sipping hot chocolate at night is what its all about. Take a boat to FW, stop in at Crocketts Tavern for a slice of pizza and a few drinks, visit the horse barn and catch the EWP from the beach before boating back to the Lodge. Its our slice of heaven.

The other resorts on property have their lovers and can't be beat, we prefer the deluxes over the values purely on ambience and atmosphere, values are too much iconish, and outside halls do nothing for us. All the deluxes are fab, can't hold a candle to them, but for us its location, we prefer hanging in the MK, usually the park with the longest hours, we like being on the lakes, we enjoy taking the boat to CR and gaining access to the monorail for a lounge tour of the monorail resorts and wife does the shopping spree in the process. Fireworks from the resort beaches and the EWP around the lake and lagoon are more pluses.

We honeymooned at POLY 5 years ago. Just got back from celebrating our 5th anniversary there. It is wonderful! I wouldn't imagine a different place to honeymoon at. WL is nice, but its too much like what I see every day (central PA), but if you are from a different part of the county that might be appealing.

We have a honeymoon suite booked for our honeymoon at the WL. King size bed & jacuzzi tub.

We are staying at The Swan for our honeymoon trip in June. We could not beat the teacher's rate we were offered, which is around $150-200 less per night than we were quoted at WL / AKL savannah view. If either of you are in the teaching or nursing profession, or a government employee, you may want to inquire! In my opinion, nothing will feel more Disney than walking out on my balcony and seeing Spaceship Earth and Illuminations!

Both the BWI and WL are great! The WL might be slightly more romantic though. If I hadn't gotten such a great discount and could stay at any deluxe, I would have probably chosen the Poly for the monorail convenience, cool dinner show, beautiful theming, and seeing Wishes from the beach. Now that's honeymoon romance! Good luck choosing and congrats!

jeremy,
i would have to pick the poly for me and mrs. incredible.:love2: where ever you go, wishing you an incredible time.

We stayed at the WL in the honeymoon suite 10+ years ago, and it was great. The resort is just amazing. The honeymoon suites are secluded, and we never saw our neighbors. And aren't the honeymoon suites now concierge?

The BWI has some rooms for honeymooners - Garden Suites. I would check out those. Also, Epcot resorts in general have a nice location. We always spent the end of our evenings in the World Showcase, so walking to our resort might have been nice. YC/BC and BWI are Epcot resorts.

Check allears.net for some great pics.

I have to recommend the WL. The warmth that you feel the minute you enter the lobby is incredible. Relaxing by the firelplaces (yes there is another up on the second floor that is much more private than the main lobby), sitting by the lake, walking along the nature trail to the campgrounds, drinking a glass of wine while soaking in the hot tub after a long day at the park, and boating over the MK are just a few. I love the waterfalls that flow into the main pool, at night these too can be very romantic. Overall there is plenty about the lodge that can be romantic and since you have time to plan - seriously consider renting a 1 bedroom villa at the WL Villas from one of the DVC owners. You'll spend about as much as you would for a hotel room but with the luxury of a condo with a double jacuzzi tub, master bedroom, living room and a kitchen (not that you'll be cooking much but its nice to have the convenience). Congratulations to you and your finance.

I have always wanted to stay at the Poly - so I would say either the Poly or the WL......I loved the WL when I stayed there.....make it somewhere that you most likely won't stay every time you visit.......Make it SPECIAL:wizard:

My vote would be for either the Animal Kingdom Lodge in a Savannah view room, or the Wilderness Lodge. We were just at the Animal Kingdom Lodge for our 10th anniversary and just loved it. Congratulations!

It's a matter of taste, but I love the Boardwalk. I'm also interested in the WL, but I've never been there. I would disagree with AKL supporters because I didn't like it much. I stayed in a savannah view with my fiance and was left unimpressed. Was it nice? Sure. It just didn't work for me...and also felt a bit lacking in the "disney" department.

Also the YC/BC or the Poly would offer a nautical/island-theme that appeals to me. I'm a big location person as well, so that helps those resorts and the BWI and is what hurts AKL in my opinion. Have fun!

Hey Jeremy,

I'm in the same boat...trying to plan a honeymoon....the budget keeps expanding. Yikes!

But I've got to say I'd vote for the WL...its a great resort. Probably my favorite. I've been looking into a room at the Villas at WL....I think you should check that out too! DF saw them online and...well...that's where we're staying now! lol

So our honeymoon is the end of May...3 night disney cruise then 7 nights at WDW...6 nights at the WL and 1 night in the honeymoon suite at the Poly!

Cheers,
Josh

WL is a great resort....

... but if budget is not an issue, I would go with POLY. You just can't beat the monorail access. :cool1: :cool1:

Yes, WL honeymoon suites are now concierge. How was your view? I have heard you can have a great view or a parking lot type of view

Jeremy, I think it depends on your budget and the time of year. Although like the other poster said, your budget will keep expanding. When I HMed there, we started out planning for the POFQ and ended up at the HM suite of the GF. :rotfl:

Anyway, I've also done moderates and concierge level at several other deluxes. Some are better than others, that's for sure. So give us more details!

We honeymooned (and were married) at the BWI. It really is a great place for a honeymoon because of the easy access to EPCOT and the nightlife of the Boardwalk. It has become one of our favorites.

Our other favorite is the WL. We like the decor and it does have a very romantic feel. It also has alot of kids (but the BW will too).

I will say this, the room at the BWI was a bit much for me during our honeymoon. It seemed like someone sneezed blue and yellow everywhere. There were stripes, flowers and plaids all around the room and it seemed to clash. Once I got past that, I was fine. Plus, we ended up with double beds (although we requested a king) because my husband declined the upgrade to a honeymoon room since they couldn't guarantee it was nonsmoking back then. Bummer! I gave him a hard time about that but neither of us wanted to be in a room that reeked of cigarrete smoke.
