Hotel Choices for Honeymoon - Help??

Jeremy, I think it depends on your budget and the time of year. Although like the other poster said, your budget will keep expanding. When I HMed there, we started out planning for the POFQ and ended up at the HM suite of the GF. :rotfl:

Anyway, I've also done moderates and concierge level at several other deluxes. Some are better than others, that's for sure. So give us more details!

Hussssshhhhh....not so loud....DF might hear you!

My budget has gone from a carnival cruise to a Disney cruise. Then from POFQ to VWL or SSR....I don't think i can afford much more expansion!

lol

Cheers,
Josh

I won't tell. But you only honeymoon once (or twice in my case :rotfl: ) so go all out.

Easy to say when you're not paying. :lmao: Man, I can plan one hell of a once-in-a-lifetime trip on someone else's dime.

Actually, if I could do it all over again, I would take that $6k he spent on our honeymoon and sink it into DVC. I would have gotten that in the settlement and be vacationing on him for 40 more years!

ETA, Josh (or Jeremy) if you are thinking SSR (or any DVC), rent points! We did and it's really economical.

I haven't stayed at WL but it is a beatiful hotel. I have stayed at BWI and loved it. I prefer the Epcot resorts since I spend most of my time in Epcot. I also think that it is a beautiful place to walk around at night. The walk around the entire lagoon is nice at night.

If you decide on BWI, may I suggest room 5272. This is the room that I got when i stayed and I had a great view of Epcot...I could see the back of the Eiffel Tower and a really nice view of Illumination fireworks....depending on where it was, I also saw the illuminations ball at times. Also, if you go out on the balcony, you can hear the music. It was great.

Yes, WL honeymoon suites are now concierge. How was your view? I have heard you can have a great view or a parking lot type of view

We were on the parking lot side, but, as I remember, you had to walk out and look down to see the parking lot. Does that make sense? The balcony was solid, and you could just see sky and roof. We didn't use the balcony much. The room was great, and it wouldn't have bothered me if there wasn't a balcony. I would definitely request the north side of the lodge (MK side) for the chance that you could see fire works, but it isn't a big deal if you are on the other side.

If we wanted to see the fireworks, we just stayed and watched. If we were back at the resort, we weren't looking for fireworks. It is really nice to go as adults, so savor it.

For a contrast, we just went with DDs and stayed at WL, and it was nice to see the fireworks from the room. We were on the north side, and we did use the balcony. A little extra breathing room was nice with 4 people in the room! In this situation, we really appreciated the balcony. It was nice to get back to the resort to get the kids in bed and let them see the fireworks from the room (well, one DD watched the fireworks while the other hid from the noise).

So, I would request the north side, but I wouldn't let it bother me if I were on the other side. The rooms are fabulous enough! And now it is concierge - that will be really nice for your honeymoon!

Have a great honeymoon and enjoy the WL!

we're having a "poly-moon" after our bw wedding! they only have one honeymoon suite, but i'm over it, i really wanted to stay at a monorail hotel for once!!!

I'm really just looking to see what's out there. Like I said, I've only stayed at POFQ and SSR so I really don't know a lot about the hotels.

Me and my fiancee like the parks alot so we'll be spending a ton of time there. We crave that Disney feel more than anything but we don't want to stay in the Values.
I found some pics of the rooms at Boardwalk and I was little disappointed. It looked too busy if that makes sense. WL is great but I'm not sure the concierge level is affordable. I just want us to be completely satisfied with our room this year. SSR was very nice but way too spaced out and didn't feel like it was Disney in a lot of ways. Am I being too picky?

Right now WL seems to be the big thing. Does AKL still have bad construction going on? I would really like to be there with a Savannah view but I'm really picky about the construction because I heard a lot of people saying bad stuff about it. The view and look of the hotel is obviously a big deal so I don't care to see construction all over the place.

Thanks to everyone for your advice.

Jeremy

AKL will be having construction going on for awhile. Right now they are still doing construction in the main bldg. area converting rooms to DVC. Then they will be build Kadani village. So if you want to avoid construction, then don't stay at AKL.

We have stayed at BWI and WL and like them both. For a honeymoon if I had to choose between the 2 it would be the WL. It is very romantic and a secluded feel but still in a great location for the parks. Personally, I would choose the GF main lodge concierge for my honeymoon if I could do it over again! At least just for 1 night and then move to a DVC 1 bedroom. I like having a seperate living room, king bed and jacuzzi! DH and I are going on a quick 2 night trip without our kids in a few days and we wanted something romantic. We choose the CR tower MK view. I just can't wait to be able to watch Wishes from my room! Also, the new rooms there look so great we had to try them out.

Good luck!

We stayed at the Yacht Club on our honeymoon in a room with a view of the lake, Boardwalk and Epcot and it was lovely. We spent alot of time at Epcot, so it was the perfect location for us. There are so many amenities in that whole Boardwalk area. Very nice.

That being said, we have since stayed at the WL, which we loved too. We are staying there again this December with the kids in a Courtyard view, which we are very much looking forward to.

We have also stayed at the Contemporary in a MK view room. That was also quite awesome and potentially romantic. The view was unbelievable.

We have visited the Poly, but never stayed there. It is a lovely resort as well.

I guess you can't go wrong. I have a soft spot in my heart for the Yacht Club, but where ever you choose you will have a great time. Make sure you remind them it's your honeymoon. You can get some great little perks, not guaranteed, but always a nice surprise.

We spent our honeymoon at WL and think it was the best choice. It's a very romantic resort.

DH and I stayed at the GF for our honeymoon. Dh was awesome enough to indulge me in that childhood dream :)

We stayed in the Sago Cay building, I think in room 5345. The room was on the outside edge of the building that faces the lagoon, so we had a picture perfect view of Cinderella's Castle from our balcony! We also had a great view of the Electric Water Pageant at night, and the Wishes fireworks which lead to some very romantic evenings :)

Despite some of the things I've read about GF on this site, it was an amazing trip. The check in process was smooth, the lobby concierge was very accomodating with questions and help. Mousekeeping was very attentive, and the resort was beautiful! Sago Cay is the farthest from the pools, but even "far" isn't that far, and the distance helped keep the craziness of the pools away from the romanticness of the buildings :)

I'll end with the picture...this is what I saw when I walked into our room, and I was totally speechless and breathless. I will never forget that moment :)

Jeremy,

From one Jeremy to another (you are not marrying a Jennifer are you, I did), I selected the WL for our Disneymoon back in Dec of 1999. I chose this resort for 2 reasons: #1 it was the cheapest deluxe resort and I was paying for this trip. #2 Disney + December + the woodsy feel of the lodge was Magic for us. We got a first floor room with a woods view of a nice little pond (THE otter pond) and you could just make out the spires of Cindys Castle. Now also be careful because if you book a regular room with a King it might not have a tub just a walk in shower (it is an ADA room)!

However 2 years later we went back to WDW and stayed for our anniversary and got a suite on the top floor and it had concierge and a King Bed and hot tub and Food and snacks. If I remember correctly it was called a jr suite and was a little less expensive than the other BIG suites. Anyway! Hope all that helps!
