I booked Doubletree, but that is a 15 min walk and they charge $10 a day for parking. I am cancelling now.

Do you now of any hotel only 1-3 mins walk?? We'd be out late and don't want to walk far.

The two closest to DTD are the Hilton and Buena Vista Palace(I think that is what it is called now). You can google Downtown Disney hotels or Hotel Plaza and get a complete list.

There is no hotel that is only 1-3 minute walk from DTD. Not even the Buena Vista Palace which is the closest of all the DTD hotels. That being said, Saratoga Springs is pretty close to DTD. You can walk to the Congress Park section in about 15 minutes or take the boat.

Are you planning on spending a great deal of time at DTD? If so, how about either Port Orleans Riverside or French Quarter? While you can't walk from either of them to DTD they both have a boat that goes between them and DTD. It is a very lovely, relaxing ride.

The Hilton is about 5 minutes to the DTD Marketplace - oh I forgot to add I think parking is $10 a day at the Hilton though. The shuttle shares hotels - Downtown Disney Resort Shuttle. I think the Wyndham LBV is across the street from DTD Marketplace as well but there are several hotels in that area - Buena Vista Palace is another- so may be check google earth and addresses to make sure. I have stayed at the Hilton though and can vouch that it is about a five minute walk.

But all the hotels mentioned might have waterbugs (palmetto bugs) on the property.

We stayed at the Hilton for one night before our package started. Literally steps away from DD. As another poster mentioned, there is a parking fee.

We even had a nice buffet breakfast included with our room.

We just stayed at the Buena Vista Palace in December & walking across the street basically is like taking your life into your own hands with all that traffic. We chose just to drive our car across the street instead - parking was a breeze at DTD & we stayed quite late. There is also bus transportation to DTD from the hotels - you just have to adjust your schedule to the bus schedule.

If you're going to be out late at DTD and want to be able to easily get back to your hotel, I'd recommend a Disney resort. Resort buses pick up right at DTD and drop you at your resort. It doesn't even need to be a Disney resort that's close to DTD, since the buses are all right there.

The DTD hotels are walkable from DTD, but won't be as close as the Disney resort bus pickup area.

Another alternative, if you don't want to stay at a Disney resort, would be a cab from DTD to your hotel.

A Palmetto Bug is a species of the cockroach ... and ALL over Florida. Don't even get my started on the bedbugs hysteria.

According to the front desk manager at POFQ, a palmetto bug is NOT a roach and I should not be concerned by the large one found in my room. (The bug was big enough to move the glass placed over him-the luggage guy was just amazed) LOL.

According to Wikipedia it is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida_woods_cockroach

The Florida Woods Cockroach (Palmetto Bug) is classified as the following:

Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Arthropoda Class: Insecta Order: Blattodea Family: Blattidae Genus: Eurycotis Species: E. floridana

The order "Blattodea" is that of the cockroaches. The American Cockroach and the Palmetto bug come from the same Family of "Blattidae". They are different Genuses (?), though.

Totally missed the point! LOL

It doesn't really matter whether a Palmetto Bug is a Cockroach (in the Northern frame of reference) or not. Deb & Bill were referencing another thread where the OP wanted a list of WDW resorts and off site hotels that had NO history of bedbugs or other insects!!!! :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

Like that was even a remote possibility anywhere in Florida...

And....??

You haven't noticed that there are also some CBR army and CSR army in other threads... why? Because they are giving them suggestions and they feel that their favorite resort fits what the person needs or want.
