HOT, HOT, HOT...how's the weather?

What valley in California are you talking about?

The Sacramento Valley near Redding where I lived until a couple of weeks ago. I've lived there most of my life. It gets actually hot there. Living without AC is absolutely out of the question.

Oh, also, no you will never have a clue what NorCal weather is like, unless you actually spend some time there. 106 is seriously a cooling trend, that was not hyperbole. I've seen heat in the 120s in the valley, and that's actually not uncommon. 106 is a nice day in July. 120 is a bad day in August.

Wow, I have lived in Northern California my entire life and haven't ever experienced the weather you describing. Are you talking the Chico/Grass Valley etc area? I know it can get pretty hot there in the summer, but it's certainly comparable to parts of Southern California (Barstow, Palm Springs etc) I think what's extreme about this weather pattern is that the coastal regions are experiencing the heat, not just the inland empire. Think San Francisco getting 110 degree temps as an accurate comparison


And we are leaving on Wednesday, so I am hoping it's not too brutal!

I don't know how 106 could be 'seriously a cooling trend' in a place where the highest average high temp (Redding) is like 97.

You know, places that are in THE VALLEY generally are going to be hotter than places that are mid-coast like Anaheim, Orange, Yorba Linda, Long Beach, etc.. when it gets to be over 90 in those areas (Long Beach...) or over 100 in Anaheim, Orange, etc.. it is NOT a cooling trend because it's generally NOT the norm.

Generally the Valleys, are going to be warm. Central Valley which is somewhat NorCal does get to be 100, and when there is a HEAT WAVE it will go beyond 100, it's not the 'norm'.

The only places I know of in CA that go beyond 115 degrees are Death Valley (which I believe ... I don't think people live there..?) Palm Springs, and Palm Desert, I'm assuming places in Riverside which is pretty far inland are going to be rather hot. It's not by the ocean.

San Francisco right now is 53 degrees, give or take and humid but my goodness, I would take that over 90 degree weather.

Ditto! I would love a 53-degree day (or 43 degrees)! I look forward to the holiday season when there is a chance of some random 53-degree days, so I can put on a sweater and break out the hot cocoa. When we get unseasonably warm temperatures in December - like an occasional 85-degree day - it annoys me. It's not supposed to be like that in December!

I agree, Sherry! I love that we don't have snow, but that doesn't mean I want to wear shorts in December!

I am so ready for fall/winter. It looks like its going to be awhile, though.

Same here! For some reason, this year more than others, I have really, really been anxious for Fall to get here. I mean, I always love Halloween and I adore the holiday season for many reasons, but this year I have been more anxious than usual for the seasons to change - for no apparent reason. But I agree with you - it looks like it's going to be a while. Summer is not going out quietly, and will probably hang on for a while.

I am one of those crazy people who actually enjoys bundling up in layers of comfy clothes with my cocoa - indoors or outside. It should not be 85 or 90 degrees in December. It should not be 80 degrees, or even 70 degrees. The days should be nice and brisk/crisp...but this is SoCal we're talking about, so I guess I can't expect miracles. I will be dancing in the streets if it ever decides to lightly snow in my specific area of L.A. It's dropped down to 30 degrees before - it could drop lower than that - but it's just not the right altitude for snow. It will never happen.

its still supposed to get up to 91 today and according to both accuweather and weather.gov its over 50% humidity right now..which is going to make it feel HOT HOT HOT!!!

And Redding. It's a small city at the base of Mt. Shasta. I've lived in the area nearly all my life, until two weeks ago. The highest "reported" temperature in Redding is 118. The official thermometer, however, is near the airport where temps don't get as high as they do in the city. There is an "unofficial" thermometer on Cypress Avenue that reports accurate temperatures, usually anywhere from 5-7 degrees higher than what the airport thermometer reports.

By the way, nowhere did I say that 106 is not hot, or that it's normal for Anaheim. Some of you ladies are going way overboard with your responses.

Last year, the second of week of Oct there was a heat wave and temps reached 105. It was crazy!!! Coming from AZ we are so hoping for it to be cooler.

In 2011 we went in May (the 22nd thru the 25th) and December (23rd thru the 27th). In May, when we thought it would be warm mad clear, it was foggy. The sun only really came out on our last day. In December, when we planned and packed for cooler weather, it was warm the whole time, I got sunburned and everything. You never can tell...

Last year, the second of week of Oct there was a heat wave and temps reached 105. It was crazy!!! Coming from AZ we are so hoping for it to be cooler.

For us, 75-80 is hot but manageable. Anything above that & my poor body says "no way"!
