Horseback riding at the fort questions

My dd and her cousin are celebrating their 16th birthdays at WDW this Sept. and dd wants to take her cousin on a horseback riding trip around the Fort as a birthday present to her cousin. Anyway, I am concerned about a couple of things.
#1- are they going to roast to death out there? We are going in Sept. and she wanted to get a reservation for right before our HDDR ressie which is at 5:00. That would put them right in the middle of the day....
#2- How much does it cost and is it worth it?

If this isn't a good idea, does anyone have suggestions on what they could do together to spend some special time and celebrate their birthdays (that doesn't break the bank)?

It's Florida,,it's HOT. Yes it's even HOT in Sept.
I'm a old fort, I tend to like things like horse ride. It is a slow ride, and giuded,,but I liked it, done it a couple times. If you are a experienced rider, you most likely won't be impressed.
If you do this , wear old dark clothes. No light /white colors,,horses are dirty and so will your clothes be.

My wife and I really enjoy doing the "Segway Wilderness Tour" at the Fort, loads of fun !
We liked this much more than the horses.
You have to be 16 years old to ride them,,I think it cost about 75.00
If you do this , try to get ressies for the earliest possible time as it will be cooler and there are usually more animals out in the morning.
(deer, turkey,etc.)

Personally , I think 16 year olds would really enjoy this,,our son loves it.

We are experienced riders and something about the Fort made the trail ride awesome even though it was guided and slow...We went with another family on the ride and had kids ages 9,14,15,18,19,20, and 21. It was a hit with all of them...well worth it if you love the outdoors and horses.
