Horseback Riding at Fort Wilderness??

Hi all!! So I have no idea if this is the right board to put this on but since it's just me and my DH I figured this was as good a place as any!!

We have booked a Trail Ride at the Fort Wilderness Lodge and I was just wondering what peoples experiences have been with this. Neither of us have ever been horseback riding and I've always wanted to try it so I figured Disney was the best place for it!!

Is this worthwhile for two adults to do or is it more geared towards young people? I am really excited/slightly nervous so any tips or peoples experiences would be great!!

First, it is Fort Wilderness, not Lodge. I only want to point this out as Fort Wilderness (FW) and Wilderness Lodge (WL) are separate resorts and I want to you to make sure you go to the right resort.

I have not done the horseback riding there, but have seen the groups either getting ready to head out or just coming back in. The people riding have all been a varied group of ages.

Most of the reviews I have read have indicated it is a very tame ride so if you have no experience, it should be a good ride for you. I know some more experienced riders have said it was actually a bit boring for them. I have not been on the back of a horse in about 20 years so I am thinking about trying this the next time I go. I figure it should be the right speed for me.

We have taken the trail ride a couple of times and had a great time. While I have experience riding, my boys had not. My youngest son has wanted a horse ever since.

My 14 yo and 9 yo daughters did it in August and loved it. Neither had riding experience. The ride is gentle and you go with 2 guides. They had a blast!

Oh geez, I didn't even realize I typed Lodge in!! Whoops! Thanks for all the info!! I am getting really excited for the whole vacation especially this little outing!

go - just remember don't let the horse eat the trees or grass - one guy did and one of the guides came up behind him - after he had been warned several time - and hit the horse (from behind).

well he got a frighten ride for the few seconds before he could control (stop) the horse.


he did not let that horse eat again.

now if you feel confidence - look around you can see deers, foxes and other animals. (some you only see florida)

don't feed any of the animals - they are wild and might decide to bit you.

brought some carrots for the horse - but was not allowed to feed him - when we got back - one of the handlers gave me one.

Great ride for beginners! As pp'd, it's an all-walking trail ride about 45 min. long. Very relaxing and sometimes you do spot other forest creatures. I've seen all ages ride, but there is a weight limit and they do enforce it via weighin.
