Horror books

I'm going to second The Strain Trilogy. Great!!!!!!! Heart Shaped Box was scary. Enjoyed it!!!! The new King, Revival, comes out early November. I really enjoyed King's Joyland. It's not "scary", but has scary elements. Lovedit. Would love to see it as a movie.

Joyland was great - in my top 3 SK books. A movie would be awesome.

My very first thought was Heart Shaped Box, but you mentioned that in your original post. My second thought was The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova.

I love all SK books and short stories and love the horror genre.

I just read by SK:

1922 - very creepy story
A Good Marriage - short but intense

By other authors:

Endurance by Jack Kilborn
Off Season by Jack Ketchum
Off Spring by Jack Ketchum (sequel to Off Season)

I also like True Crime (which can be as scary as horror)
This real life story of Sylvia Likens by Jack Ketchum called The Girl Next Door (saw the movie and had to read the book). Can't believe this really happened during the sixties. Heartbreaking.

Dr. Sleep is on my list. This summer we were at the Stanley Hotel in Colorado where Stephen King got his influence to write the Shining. Pretty cool place and story about how he was influenced!

Loved The Stand - one of my favorite books ever!! Read it when it first came out and want to read it again.

The Strain has peeked my interest. Going to check that out!!

When I read "IT" years ago, I slept with the lights on for two weeks - because I could see the bathroom sink from my bed.

"The Stand" took me completely out of reality so that I was surprised to see people out and walking around healthy. (Been wondering when someone was going to name Ebola Capt. Tripps)

Read "Pet Semetary" one time only - a rarity - I like to be scared over and over. This was too much since I had pets. Nice ones.

Maybe for another time, since you read King, you might try non-scary, history changing , bite your nails "11-22-63". I would love someone else to read it so we could talk about it!

An EMP occurs, and the entire books is taken up with how *ordinary* people deal with the loss of modernity. It's horrifying....

I read One Second After last year. So scary because it could happen!

I started Dr Sleep this morning. Then I'll read Pet Sematary.

I don't think Haunted is really a horror book. Scary in a different way I think though.

OMG, Candyman is my horror movie to beat all other horror movies. For some reason that one really got to me. I can't even watch tv shows or movies that had the man that played Candyman in them.

Ok, been trying to think of one for you but everyone post them before I do, lol.
Then just now I remembered "Harvest Home" by Thomas Tryon. He also wrote "The Other".
Harvest Home is an oldie but I still remember it being really spooky. Might be worth a re-read for this time of year.
