Horrible experience at Hallmark thanks to a bigot

I'm sorry that happened to you, Jenz. :(

If it were me, I'd be finding someone at the top to tell that to. Completely and utterly unacceptable that she said that to you. :(

I'm sure you will not be frequenting that Hallmark store again. I know I would expect an apology and some sort of discipinary measures taken against that clerk before I returned.
Actually it was another customer, not the clerk.

{{{{Hugs}}}} for you..

And ****POP**** in the nose for her.

I'm sorry this happened to you, what a rotten thing to say. I did love your come back, very classy... Can't say that I could've been had she said it to me. (And I'm not even French!)

Actually it was another customer, not the clerk.

Ooops, my bad. My head is pounding today, so forgive me, Jenz, for skimming your post.

I guess there isn't much you can do about another customer, although I do think your reply to her was perfect. :) How dare she make such an assumption! I am outraged for you.

I'm sorry that happened to you. It's okay for people to be upset with the French government, but the French people... No! That's as bad as people who hate Americans for things that our government has done. We may elect our officials, but that doesn't mean we control their actions.

However, the french people need to let their government know that not supporting the USA is unacceptable. After all, who liberated Paris in WWII?

How do you know they aren't? And perhaps they don't agree with the war, just like many Americans (including myself).
People have no control over what their elected officials do.

And let us not forget who helped us become the Nation that we are - the French.

Great reply Jenz, I would have thought of something an hour later! You're quick on your feet. I hate when people generalize about an entire race of people.

You handled yourself well. Good for you! I'm afraid I wouldn't have been quite so ladylike in my response.

BTW - love your clippie - but do you realize he must be driving a car in Europe. ;)

No one should be mad at anyone who hasn't join us on this. Just like families who have to deceide what is best for them, countries do to. I wish they had been on our side, but I don't fault them for doing what they felt was right for them. I am half Cherokee Indian and half French. So guess she wouldn't like me either. Yet my son is over there putting everything on the line so she can be stupid. Concider the source and know not all of us hate the French or the Canadian people. Most of us think you are a great bunch of people.:)

Pokie

I think sometimes people forget where we got the Statue of Liberty.

Jenz, you should have tossed down your bags and pounded her right there on the floor like two 4th grade boys.

:p

that does suck, and you gave a good comeback. But, people are rude everywhere. My sis has been living in London for 4 years, and just yesterday she was harassed twice!! One man heard her talking and spit on her calling her "blah blah blah (can't say real words) American" and in then in a restaurant these people went up to her and her daughter while they were eating and started yelling at her asking her why we (being Americans) think we can do anything we want, get out of England, and some other stuff.

Sooo, we are equally all idiots!!;)

Unfortunately, it runs both ways. My dh was in Paris last week and he said most people who found out he was American were very rude to him. He finally got sick of it and gave them a ration right back. They didn't understand all the words he used but understood the meaning:p .

That lady should not have been rude to you. I hate it when people are awful to each other like that.:(

People can't be judged by their nationality, religion whatever. I have a great friend who is Moslem and (gasp) Pakistani. He is a wonderful person but had to put up with all kinds of garbage after the 9/11 attack.

Great comeback - I wouldn't have thought of that. :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

DW MeanLaureen manages a Hallmark store. Must be something in the air that makes the customers so rude. Her assistant manager was Muslim (22 yrs old, had come to America from Ethopia when her parents died) and after 9-11 she had a customer call her names and refuse to let her wait on her because of her "name" sounding Arabic. :( Luckily DW Lauri has no patience for idiots and told that lady to get the heck out of her store.

unfortunately, this is not an isolated case :(
There are a lot of people who seem to think that any French person should be embarassed to be French. :(
I am so sorry that this happened to you, but please understand that there are a lot of people who think that any American person should be embarrased to be American as well. You would not believe the grief and threats my American friend and his wife are receiving in in Paris. :(

Sounds like you handled yourself very well. I don't think I would have handled it so well. It makes me soooo sad hearing stories like that. They happen too often it seems. :( I just had to go through a dinner party with people who were both homophobic and racist. *sigh*
