Hello All,

We just returned from our Week-Long stay at SSR and at Disney. I must say, this was the most horrible trip and customer service I have ever seen in my entire life. We booked the trip through AAA for the discounts we were supposed to receive--- The first day at Disney, we had to pay for our entire food for 5 people (Almost $300) even though we purchased the dining plan, because the hotel could not get the dining credits to add to our account for some unknown reason.

Secondly, that night when we went to the front to have them reverse the charges on my credit card, the assistant manager accidentally charged the meals 3 more times before reversing them, and I had a total of $1500+ charges just in food on my credit card, the FIRST DAY!!! These charges did not credit to my card until the end of the week, so I was without this $ in my account all week.

Third, we purchased the Water-Park option on our reservations... When we got to Typhoon Lagoon--- NO water park tickets. We paid the same exact amount it costs WITH the water park tickets, yet no one could find where they were added. So we were out an additional $207 for this. AAA and the management at SSR were no help in this matter nor could they tell us why the amount we paid was the same as if we had water park tickets and how they vanished from our reservation.

To top it all off, we went to load the car yesterday morning for our drive home, our car had been broken into and stolen was: My $600 camera with all this weeks pics, and pictures from a once-in-a-lifetime trip we took a couple of weeks ago along with almost $4000 (YES, $4000) worth of Coach and Dooney & Bourke Purses we had bought for ourselves and for Christmas presents, and other misc. items we had purchased on our trip this week. The Orange County Sheriff's Dept. was great, and tried to get prints (they broke in with an unlocking device, no broken windows) and hopefully that will turn something up, but Disney was NO help. They informed us at security that there are NO cameras on the parking lots there (We stayed in Congress Park) because, and I quote from security "The customers don't like it. If we have a man come in here with someone other than his.... wife.... and a security camera catches it and for some reason that video is released, we could get sued. So we don't have cameras".... The front desk gave us a business card to call Guest Claims, who didn't even want to file a report on their end, but upon persistence and having to get rude with them, finally agreed.

I have been on multiple trips and occasionally we have had one or two things not go as planned, and 99% of the time if you speak with management they will try and help. But all we got was a "Welcome Home" and a grin, and a pat on the butt pushing us out the door.

After paying over $5000 for the trip, I could not have been more disappointed in AAA (who told us they're Disney's partner and Disney owns most of the interest in AAA) and in Disney's staff.

Since this was not DVC trip, but a CRO trip booked through a travel agency, I'm sending this to the trip reports board.

I have to say, leaving those expensive items in a car, anywhere, Disney or not, is taking a risk. in todays society, unfortunately crime doesn't stop at the mouse's front gate.

And as far as I know, your ticket type should have been listed on the confirmation you received from AAA.

We considered bringing them in the room--- But we heard horror stories from Housekeeping Stealing items, so we assumed they were safer in the car.

I don't care which way you frost it....this was an absolute crappy vacation. I am so sorry you went through all this!

Sorry you had a bad vacation. I would have taken the bags and camera in the room. The camera could have gone in the safe and maybe one purse. I would rather take my chances keeping it in the room in some luggage than to leave high priced items in the car. If something is stolen from the room..there's not that many people you could blame. But if it's stolen from a car in the parking lot..it could be anybody.

I usually buy 1-3 Coach and/or Dooney & Bourke Purses every year when I go down, but they always come to the room with me allow with the one I am carrying. I have even left my wedding and engagement ring on the counter (by mistake) and it was still there. Not saying that I would always do that because you really never know.

Sounds like AAA pretty much dropped the ball. Did you double check everything before you left for your trip?

I'm sorry that this happened to you, and I know that you will hear it many times in future - leaving valuables in the vehicle is just not smart.

This could have happened at any hotel around the world, not just a Disney resort. I live in hotels about 300 nights/year and pretty much every parking lot has a reminder to remove valuables from your vehicle.

It's also a good reminder to people that WDW is not inside a magic bubble; theft and other crimes do happen, and people must remember to be on alert the same as they would when travelling to any other destination.

Sorry, I just need to respond to this. AAA is an organization comprised of various automobile clubs.

Who owns AAA? the various state and regional automobile clubs in the United States. Members fund the clubs and the organization.

I can assure you that while Disney pays advertising revenue (along with thousands of other companies) they do not have control over AAA and their operations.

I agree it is not a magic bubble, but we do pay $400+ a night for something, don't we? Before we checked in at SSR, we stayed in a 2 bedroom villa about a mile from Disney---- $75 a night, and there was NO difference in the two resorts, except one was in Disney, one wasn't. I could've gotten ripped off anywhere, true. But you expect better security at places like Disney.

Look at it this way--- let's say you're on your way to your car and your phone rings and you look down in your purse to answer it--- In the mean time your 6 year old wanders away from you and one of these thieves or a predator snatches your kid. Unless you catch them right then and there, you have no way of knowing who it was because Disney doesn't have security cameras at their resorts (or at least this one).

This goes beyond purses being stolen. I am paying this extra money for something, and I would like to think it was assuring I was a little safer inside that resort. But apparently not. I learned my lesson. Disney won't be getting anymore of my money for their resorts.

I was ONLY going by what a supervisor at AAA told us this week when we spoke with them to complain over the error in reservations. Disney had passed the buck to AAA, and the supervisor said "I don't know why they said to call us- They own most of the interest in AAA."

I'm sorry, but I am going to be the realistic poster on this thread.

Theft can happen anywhere, no matter how much one pays for the room. The reality is that you did not take responsibilty for your items. The items were not stolen from your room, but from your vehicle. This can happen anywhere, and does happen pretty much anywhere. The only thing which one can do to prevent it is to take responsibility and remove the items.

I'm not quite sure what your child predator analogy has to do with theft from vehicle.

Sorry this happened, it stinks to learn a lesson the hard way. Sounds like AAA was trying to pass the buck back on Disney and did not want to take responsiblity for thier mistakes. They booked the trip, so they should be responsible for any booking errors.

As to crime, we live in a cruel world and Disney World is not immune to that. Hopefully your experience will make others realize that.

When we make expensive purchase while traveling, we ship them home instead of toting them around. With insurance its the best method.

My analogy is that SECURITY could've helped prevent this. If a car can be broken into and multiple items stolen, your child could just as easily be kidnapped without any clue where or who took them.

I am not a 2 year old, and I appreciate you, bavaria not treating me as so. I paid for my trip just like everyone else, and paid for quality services, rooms, and yes, security, which I did not get AT ALL.

My analogy is that SECURITY could've helped prevent this.

I don't understand how. In your first post you said there were no windows broken. Even using cameras, how is security supposed to determine which individual should have access to which vehicle?

Security can't be expected to zoom in on every person entering the parking area and scrutinize their every move. It's impractical and you'd have people crying foul over privacy concerns.

Wow, what you described sounds like a nightmare - or a good movie script. Look on the bright side - based on your join date here on the board, looks like your "nightmare" lead you to find a place where you could let other potential victims know about the danger at WDW. Thanks!:rolleyes1

I am so sorry for your experience. We had a great experience with Disney, making my DD 5s wish come true for her Wish Trip.

I am sorry too for folks giving you "now that the cow is out of the barn advice" and telling you things that you probably started telling yourself from the beginning.

May good come to you from here out.

So sorry this happenned to you. A few months ago, I read a post about a family getting robbed of their laptop and cell phones while at SSR. Sorry to hear of another theft at the same resort.:sad1:

Hopefully the OP learned a valuable lesson. One, more money for a room doesn't mean better security in a parking lot. It means a gate guard, lovely theming, proximity to the parks, and extra magic hours.

Two, the AAA confirmation would have listed all your package components when you booked. A totla number of nights, plus amenities for each night are listed and how many guests. Did you bring your confirmation with you? It's very important to do so in case there's a discrepancy as you experienced. FWIW, you can't book a package and get the dining plan for any fewer number of evenings than your package total. Can't be done. You either have the dining package for your entire stay or you don't. Now that you're home it would be a good idea to check it for the components you know you paid for. If they are listed, it's Disney's bad... if they aren't, it's AAA, but only in the matter of the water parks. I have a feeling that the front desk at SSR made the majority of the mistakes, especially when the dining plan couldn't be added for the first night. Also, Disney doesn't own AAA.

Never leave valuables in a car. I don't even leave the Nuvi in the rental on vacation. If you are concerned about the housekeeping staff, lock items inside your empty suitcases, or the room safe.

I hope the rest of your holiday season goes better.

Yes, you do pay more to stay on site with Disney unless you stay at a value resort. We don't mind paying for the convenience but we surely don't expect any more security than anywhere else. There are properties offsite that cost less and actually have better bedding, facilities and food...do they have security cameras in their parking lots/structures...maybe not. This could have happened anywhere.

I am surprised there are no cameras. Don't most parking lots in America have cameras? Seems like a sure way to catch a preditor or someone looking to vandalize. I have seen so many recent cases on the news where a missing person has been located because the preditor was captured on surveillance camera. I'm going to keep this in mind on my next trip.

That stinks. Sounds like AAA messed up big time. Too bad about your stuff being stolen, but that's no one's fault. Never leave anything of value in your car.
My camera was stolen at Epcot a few years ago. I only can blame myself though, for putting it down next to me on a bench. Can't blame Disney.
