Hopper Upgrade to Annual Pass Question

Hi. I am a planner, so I always plan my trips a year in advance. We rented points to stay at BLT in Aug 2012. About a month ago, I arranged our 8 day hoppers and a not at Pop Century with our travel agent and put down a downpayment.

We have now decided to become DVC members and purchased at BCV this week. I know that we get a discount on annual passes, and I also know that hoppers can be upgraded to annual passes, but I was wondering if anyone knows if we try to upgrade them when we get down there would we be able to get them for the reduced cost?

I hope I am stating this question clearly. Please let me know if you have any questions. We wouldn't want to upgrade until we get down there, so that we could use that pass early summer 2013.

Thanks

If you have standard (ie nothing unusual like military) unused MYW hoppers and you have a blue DVC member card, you can upgrade the MYW tickets into the (discounted) DVC AP for residents of your household..

It is best (value) to first use the tickets for a park entry before you upgrade, especially if ticket prices go up before then. You can upgrade any MYW ticket within 14 days of first use, as long as there is remaining park day(s) on the ticket.

Thank you. I was hoping that we could do that. When we bought our guide was not sure how that worked. Even though he didn't have an answer, I appreciated his honesty.

Oh yes, it's very easy.

Take your tickets to Guest Services (relations? I can never remember), have your blue DVC ID card and ID for each adult upgrading, and you pay the difference between the DVC AP and what you have.

To be picky, it's not a discount from their point of view, but a different sort of AP...a "DVC AP". So you're upgrading to that specific sort of AP, not upgrading to a discounted AP. Totally picky, but IMO it makes more sense to me that way.

It isn't being picky. It actually makes more sense that way and will def. make it easier for me to explain. I did the math and assuming there isn't a price change it will cost me less than $250 to upgrade my family. Thank you.

*is kicking myself for letting a day on the 7 day ticket i purchased this summer expire instead of just getting the AP.*

that is all

go you for asking this question!

We could have upgraded to a season pass last year for $700, and I was kicking myself when the hopper bill came for not doing it. Now that we are DVC, I am not as upset.

I had a 10 day PHNE that I had used 2 days on. I upgraded to an AP with the DVC discount.

I actually got a refund as my original ticket was more than the AP. They put my balance on a gift card... I then purchased the Tables in Wonderland card for $75 and still had $19 left on the gift card! :yay:

Wow!! I was reading about when to upgrade. Does it matter which day you upgrade your pass? We aren't going until Aug, and I do not plan on upgrading until then, but I didn't know if it mattered if I upgraded on the 1st or last day or any day in the middle.

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure they're not supposed to refund you the "extra" amount. That's a sure way for the Mouse to lose money.

In terms of park admission, no. The AP will be valid from the 1st day you used the MYW. I upgraded mine on my 3rd park day, when I was picking up MVMCP tickets
. I didn't have to wait in line to use my MYW tickets on my first day ;)

To upgrade there must be at least 1 day remaining on the MYW and it needs to be within 14 days of 1st use.

But the AP gets you 10% shopping discount at most merchant locations (PAP is 20%?) And possibly some dining discounts, so most people want to upgrade early in a trip ;) The AP TiW card cost may be lower than DVC (75 vs 100?) So that may be another reason to upgrade right away.
