Hope DVC is ready for the cars in 2022!

Old Key West, Saratoga, BoardWalk, Beach Club, Wilderness Lodge and Poly were all at their current build out before Magical Express existed. Kidani added plenty of ground floor parking. Grand Floridian villas is small and added parking when constructed. Not sure about riviera but it's next door to Caribbean beach which has added space. BLT is the one that stands out as a potential problem, but that could be addressed by policing the lot better.

All of these locations will have more people using rideshare than pre-DME.

There is no doubt in my mind there will be some increase in the number of cars. If people have to pay for a shuttle service, some of those people will weigh the cost to rent a car. I do think increase demand for rental cars will drive the cost of them up so it might help level out some. I think using a parking pass for the crowded lots is a great idea! They have no way to currently police the lots from those that park just for a dining reservation and stay all day at the park (or at least no way that I am aware of).

The parking problem is many day tripper/ off site folks park at the resorts to avoid the $$$ parking fees. If the greedy bast*** went back to free parking this would go away. It's it enough to pay $120+ a day per person to enter a park. Do they really need to add on $20+/- a car to park? It's the Disney greed that is causing many of the current problems.

If there is a reasonably priced service (like maybe if Mears takes over operation of DME) I'd still take the bus over a rental car. But that of course, depends upon the number of people in your party.

I think we have to wait to see how they price it! They are going to continue it and I do bet they price it pretty decent given the loss from not having a contract with Disney.

If it is $20 to $30/round trip per person it’s going to be competitive to car rentals during certain times of the year and family size.

I'd be happy with that

We went to WDW prior to the inception of ME and hired private transportation. In all of our trips, we've only rented a car once just to try it it. For us, it was a waste of money and time. We learned very quickly that it was much easier to just hop on one of the busses to get to the parks and that having a rental didn't really save us any time. That being said, we always stay in the Disney bubble, but those who go off site frequently might want to rent a car, but even then, Uber or Lyft might still be a better option depending on distance.

The free DME transport was great while it lasted. Having been a DVC member since prior to the start of DME, we'll likely just go back to private towncar services or Mear's. We've never found the value in a rental car compared to paying for private transportation with Mear's or a towncar service. We prefer the Disney "bubble" so no need for a car.

I agree a rental car isn't really great for zipping around Disney property. And with a lot of grocery services available now, there's no big advantage. Prior to grocery delivery, it was nice to have a car to run to Publix for supplies.

Being an SSR owner I just walk to the Winn Dixie at the crossroads

If you are referring to the Crossroads Center at the end of Hotel Plaza Blvd., remember that the Crossroads Shopping Center, which had a Gooding's, and numerous shops and restaurants, will be totally closed by August and demolished for an I-4 off ramp. Most places there have been closed for months.

We drove down in December due to COVID concerns. We also drove to the parks and to Disney Springs to avoid getting on the buses. I would never do that again if not for COVID, especially driving to the parks.

We rented a car in October and other than the MK (no trams and a l o n g walk to the TTC) it wasn't a big deal to drive. Although, being at the Boardwalk helped when going to HS and Epcot. We ate at a lot of resort restaurants and drove to them exclusively. But I really missed the valet parking.

1. MF never covered the cost of DME, so there would be no reduction for us. My understanding is that the line item for “transportation“ in our MF correlates to resort-to-park transport, for example, Skyliner. I could have misunderstood though, I’m sure one of the more seasoned owners will chime in.

2. As someone else mentioned up thread, many resorts were already in existence prior to the DME service which has only been around since around approximately ‘05 or ‘06, although I don’t recall the exact date, I just know that it was after ‘04 and before ‘07. Parking should‘t be an issue due to #3.

3. There are many transportation options besides DME, most of them very reasonably priced as there’s a lot of competition. These options were available even prior to DME, in fact there are more now that we have Uber and Lyft. These options would be cheaper than renting a car in most cases.

4. It’s going to be ok. 😉
