Hope DVC is ready for the cars in 2022!

I think DME has a lot of Disney-goers brainwashed/spoiled. Renting your own car is so so much more convenient and comfortable and less stressful than relying on Disney transportation. Also, the most annoying part about DME was how they insisted on picking you up 4 hours before your flight departure.

With that said, rental rates for this Summer are looking very high.. I think the rental companies are expecting a big Summer.. and they may be right.

Car Rental companies greatly reduced the size of their rental fleets because nobody was renting cars most of the past year, and rental companies didn’t have enough parking space for all of their cars. (One rental company in Florida lost a bunch of cars they were parking in grass at an airport due to a grass fire the cars started)

They also lost most of their bread and butter corporate rentals because there have been no conventions, etc.

If there’s enough continuous demand for rentals, companies will buy more cars and eventually get back to lower pricing, but I’d expect that to take a few years.

I got a mid size car for 5 days $100. Why wouldnt you take that option? I think plenty of people will, so long as its not a peak travel period.

I think it will really depend on everyone’s situation and the cost of Mears.

$100 for 5 days is a great price but I just checked for our upcoming 4 day trip and can’t get it less than $135 for the two of us. If this was next year and Mears was even charging $40 a person it’d be cheaper to stay with shuttle.

I am hoping they come out with some pricing in the next few months!!

please tell us on how you got this rate and with whom. I can’t find any deals like that

Dollar. It all depends on time of year. People here are just throwing out numbers to act like rental cars arent a good option, but the real answer is its highly situational.

Not sure why you assume that numbers shared are not accurate but definitely I agree that it will depend on when you go because Dollar for my upcoming trip was definitely not that cheap! Lol

Honest question since I don't know. How do they time the cars? If someone is staying at the resort vs visiting. Is there a sheet the guard has ?

The guards at the hotel lots used to give paper parking passes with a time on them to day guests. I do not recall if this was done everywhere or just at the walkable resorts such as CR and YC/BC. There used to be paper passes for resort guests also. If parking becomes as issue, I could see a return to some sort of monitoring.

I do think they are accurate, there are just some people who post here that assume....oh my car was $999 over spring break week, of course it doesnt make sense to rent a car. In reality there are many weeks where renting a car is dirt cheap, it just all depends.

In 2022 its likely the car rental companies will make a push at MCO to pick up some of that new guest traffic, which means lower prices.

Very possible but it also sounds like Mears will be competitive as well and I know for most of my family and friends, a car rental would have to be substantially cheaper to outweigh the benefit of dealing with a car rental.

Im just not convinced that there will be a parking problem because remember, cash guests who used DME would now have to add a parking fee to overall cost to the rental, So, even a 5 day rental at $100, will cause a cash guest at least another $50 to $125 to pay to park depending on where they stay. And, there is a good chance parking fees will increase for them.

I think it's also inaccurate to look at a $100 car rental to be normal. A weekly car rental is probably going to run somewhere in the $300 to $500 cost before gas and tolls depending on type of car and time of year.

What is your guess based off of?

I think you will have a lot more DVC members renting vs cash guests, simply because DVC members are repeat visitors and are more likely to want to get off site. Places like boardwalk are already filled during peak times of year, so even if its not an issue during say Janiary or February, what do they do with the cars during Food and Wine?

I think more will Uber/Lyft than rent a car. I’m sure more and more were doing this anyway and that was probably the one of the reasons Disney did away with DME.

Being an SSR owner I just walk to the Winn Dixie at the crossroads

That's a pretty long walk. Isn't it still over 2 miles away from SSR. That's our go to for groceries when we stay at WDW . Pretty convenient to SSR

It's based off of what rental cars generally go for and my own experience. It's not just a guess.

FYI Disney has sold the Crossroads Mall to the State of Florida and nothing over there will be open past August 2021

The Winn Dixie is not in the Crossroads. It's about 1 mile north of the Crossroads. Just seems like a really far walk from SSR as the PP I quoted suggested.

Which relies upon locals wanting to be uber/lyft drivers. How many will want to deal with airport traffic on a regular basis, and the wear and tear on their vehicle from the luggage? I think it's a pipe dream to believe that enough uber/lyft drivers will exist to accept the hundreds of hourly trips that would be necessary to replace DME.

This is accurate and why the prices will go up, pushing more to rentals. Not to mention the already repeated fact that uber does not fit the needs of many if not most traditional disney families.
