Hooters and teen boys

Just to throw in my two cents, girls are not treated as sex objects or lusted after just b/c they work at Hooters.

I don't want to sound full of myself, but I work at the Sports Authority and wear a polo shirt...and the looks I get from some older men rival those that I get in my everyday clothes. It doesn't take a place called Hooters for girls to be attractive and lusted after. Walk down the street fully clothed in a foreign country, Italy, for example. See what happens.

Rajah, Buckalew and nkjzmom-

I agree with Eeyore2U's senitment to a point. Definitely would not want DDs wearing a thong bikini until she is out of my house, but at age 4, DD does wear two-piece swimsuits. They are modest ones (more of a tankini than bikini), but I have no choice. DD is very tall ang long waisted. One piece swimsuits just do not fit her, or she outgrows them in a couple of weeks. That doesn't mean my/her values are skewed. I am being practical when it comes to $$.

But I will say this. As long as DDs live in my house, I WILL have final say so on clothes. Especially since I am paying for them.

And just for the record, because of this thread, I made DH take me and DDs to Hooters for dinner last night. I really wanted some wings! :teeth:

But if DH chose a breast or a thigh, would you be surprised?;)

Would those of you that think Hooters is so degrading and wouldn't let your little girls work there, let your DDs model? Swimsuit Model? Enter beauty pagents? Wear a two piece bikini to the beach? Wear a thong bikini? Wear a shirt that shows her midriff?

As the Mom of a beautiful 13 year old daughter....NO.

Why is it that conservative parents are often labeled as being self-righteous, prudish, out-of-step with the times and without a life? I find this all offensive. We are only trying to do the best job we can as we raise our children in these difficult times. Tolerance, please.

I used none of those words. Is that you looking in the mirror?

I would like to be a little birdie to see what really goes on. How you all will handle the peer pressure your child will go through on how to dress and various other things and what happens if and when they rebel.

I repsect your values and choices but I'm curious about how it will work in the longterm.

Thanks to year2late for making me nearly choke on and spit out my drink as I read your response. ROFL.

And to answer your question...DH chose the buffalo chicken sandwich. Of course, it is made with a chicken breast! :teeth:

Well, Mitch, I'll let you know in 10 years OK? I have no idea how things will turn out. I'm doing the best I can & just because 'sex sells' and 'sex is everywhere we look' these days, doesn't mean I have to join in and let DD do it all. I'm going on what my parents did for me, & I turned out just fine, I think. Sure, they'll be more sexy trends and lots of peer pressure in our days ahead, I'm no dummy. But I see many teenaged girls today who don't go there & I'm going to hope and pray for best. So, I don't do the things you mentioned or cheering, twirling, dance squads or the like. I'm not sure what you mean by "what really goes on".

nkjzmom, I like what you said! The original poster asked a question and my answer is still no, I would not want my son to go, even if I am the only parent on the planet who feels this way, which I know I am not!! On a funny note, I just have to tell all of you. I used to work in downtown Jacksonville, Fl. and there was a Hooters right next door. We used to take people to the restaraunt of their choice for their B-day, and of course all of the men picked Hooters. This one guy always said there was no way those girls could be real! He called them "Disney created audio-amnitronics" LOL... Have a great day!!!

Eeyore2U, I was not speaking about you, that's why I started a new paragraph.
I admit that the peer pressure issues have been some of the most difficult while raising not only our daughter, but her two older brothers. I have nothing but empathy for anyone raising a teen today. It is so hard to know what to be firm about and what to let go. In the long run, the proof is in the pudding. The things that I have found most important in raising a great kid are to give them lots of love, lots of time, and talk to them constantly about everything. Rebellion happens to kids from strict backrounds as well as liberal ones. Parenting is tough, period. I am happy to say that my first son, 21, is graduating from college this week and has few (just a few) regrets about our conservative parenting of him. And he tells his 13 yo sister to dress modestly. :)

There are two points in this post. You have a young child and right now you *think* (as all of us with children think) what's best. You can plan and plan but until you see what and how the child grows you don't know how you will handle a situation. I have a 16 y/o DS. Been there, revised the plan MANY times.

*What really goes on* means you can only control what you see. Once they walk out the door at whatever age we all hope what we taught them works.

So, I don't do the things you mentioned or cheering, twirling, dance squads or the like.

Wrong Eeyore from the wrong board. I'll let I<3E you were quoting her.

I agree with you. And what I said was that I am doing the best job I know to do to possibily build a foundation for her & her decision making when she is older. I think I already said that when she's an adult it will all be up to her. :)

The really goes on comment is like this: right now what you see is what you get. She's really too young to sneak & do something once she's out the door. So, for now, this IS "what really goes on". And I'll be hopeful about the future, knowing there is no guarentee. :)

I know the difference which is why I said 'you mentioned and' blah, blah, blah. But thanks anyway. I just can't stand those things so I had to mention them.

Nope. ;):teeth:

BTW, nope can answer both. ;) I'm done now though. My thoughts are getting repetitive like beating a dead horse. ;)

Oh, yeah, that's right, you just used my post from another board out of context and attributed it to another person. Silly me! What was I thinking?
