I understand that I can reserve a year out but how does the payment end work?

If I use a debit/credit card to hold the ADR, until we get our rooms booked and we have the dining plan arranged, how do they charge it or is the number just used to hold the reservation?

We are going to the Hoop Dee Doo with a family that will be visiting in a few days, she included us in her reservation, and has already been charged for the ADR at Hoop Dee Doo. Same thing for CRT, when I called to make reservations for my DD and I, I was told it was a "pay in advance" event, and my credit card would be charged that day.
