Hoop Dee Doo Boo Hoo

Months ago, the DMIL exclaimed that this was something she definately wanted to do and had been looking forward to it.

Unfortunately, it wasn't until yesterday that I was able to inquire about ADR's as I have been finalizing and synchronizing itineraries with another party of 7 for the last several weeks. Anyway, the only ADR I could get was for 5:00 and category 3 so my question is this.

Having paid for the ressie, is it worth it keep this knowing that we would have to cut a park day short (Universal) to get down there and get situated just see the show from a distance? Is the show and food THAT good? I was ideally hoping for a 7:15 seating and at worst, category 2 seating.

We think the food is very good. The actors come out into the audience plus upstairs. We prefer the upper tier since we can see everything.

Tier 3 is not all that bad. You will be on the balcony, but your table will be at the rail, so no one in front of you . The performers make sure the upper deck is visited during the show, just like downstairs. Personally I like the balconey better because you are not as crowded as those on the main floor.

As for the food, it gets mixed revues. When I have been the food was great. Fried chicken was crispy on the outside and tender inside, the ribs were perfect and the strawberry shortcake was wonderfull. Others have reported the chicken was greasy and the ribs tough and over done.

Remember that it is a dinner SHOW and you are paying for the show as well as the food.

I don't know if I'd cut a park day like Universal to do it.

I always go to the 5:00 p.m show (it's my favorite time) but I always do this on a Magic Kingdom day because I can leave the MK, hop on a boat, do the HDDR, and then return to the MK.

I'm thinking you're going to have to leave Universal no later than 3:30 to make the show, depending on your transportation.

That would be an awfully short day at Universal, especially if that is your only day there. When are you going because the traffic can be terrible between Universal and Disney so travel alone could take awhile. If you aren't going for a bit I would keep calling there may be a cancellation for another day or a later show. The category 3 wouldn't bother me but the short day and rushing like crazy to get there would.

Did you check to see if there are openings for the 9:30 show? Maybe that would work so that you didn't have to cut the day at Universal so short?

I love the Hoo Dee Doo - but Universal is an experience in itself and it has great restuarants and the nightlife on Citywalk is fantastic...

You would have to leave Universal by 2:30 in order to get back to your car...
drive to Ft. Wilderness...Get on bus to get to Pioneer hall... Depending on the crowds you may not be able to take in everything.

I would try for a 9:30 seating on a day you are at Disney...IMO

Thanks to everyone for some very insightful feedback.

As one Diser eluded to, I am less concerned about the tier and am more concerned about the time. We aren't going to HDDR until 12/2 (Sunday) so traffic from Universal to FWR should be at a minimum.

I do agree that we would have to leave the park by no later than 3 just to play it safe and this alone really has me in a frenzy. It will be our 2nd day at Universal and just can't see us trying to cram extra into the 1st day. It also doesn't help that neither park is open later than 6.

It would appear that it would be in my best interest to call daily in hopes of being able to switch from 5 to 7:15 and do that for several weeks. At the end of the day and while this would be a cool show, I simply can't see myself sacrificing a good chunk of a park day to do it.

Why don't you keep the ressies at least until the required cancellation date and in the mean time keep calling and checking on availability for the later shows. People change their plans and cancel all the time as they get their money refunded as long as it's within the time frame allowed, just make sure you don't let it lag beyond your refund date.

This is true. I got in for dinner there over Easter about a week ahead of time. When the CM checked for me she didn't think there would be any seating and then she said "Oh my, I can see we've had some cancellations."

I have been to the the Hoop Dee Doo many times, and everytime is just as enjoyable as the first. In my opinion, Yes i think it is worth leaving Universal early to go to the Hoop Dee Doo. And as many have said before no matter where you are sitting the actors do a wonderful job of making everyone in the audience feel as a part of the show. And the food has always been great for me. I love Fried Chicken and Ribs which might help., but the food was always great.

Go and have a great time there. Once dinner is over you can even stick around the area. The are many activities that a family can partake in just around that area.
