I have never been to the Luau (sp?), but I went to hoop de doo many years ago and really enjoyed it. At the time, my now 13 yr old was 2 and my 11 year old was a few months old, DD 10 was not even born. So I thought maybe they should go. I am not sure which one they would enjoy more?

I appreaciate any feedback.
Thank You.

Personally, I would prefer the luau. Hoop-dee-doo sounds too...country to me, which is so not anything I would enjoy.

Honestly, the food at the luau sounds better to me as well.

BUT - for your kids, Hoop-dee-doo would probably be more entertaining.

Hoop De Doo !

Your kids would love HDDR! :rotfl: Kids that age really seem to like the corny humor!:confused3

I, personally, have not been to either one. However, on the DIS, people seem to be unimpressed with the luau and say it wasn't worth the money etc. I've heard good things about HDDR though. My friend said he enjoyed the food very much and I've heard it's very entertaining.

We did the luau in September and really enjoyed it.....the food was great and the show was cute :cutie:. Our 2 DS's liked it and they were 14 & 12 at the time, so I think your kids will like it. We've never done HDDR but that is on our list of things to do next trip :).

Awhile back I would have told you to do neither and to take them to Dixie Stampede instead. Sadly my beloved Stampede is now gone, and so HDDR it is! (Although I have nothing against the Poly's show, I just think kids might not be all that impressed.)

We really like both. Although our kids love HDDR the best. Both are very good shows and food. The atmosphere is just alot more fun at the HDDR! :)

We have gone to both. Luau 2 times - once w/ kids once w/o They liked it not too enthusiastic about learning the hula onstage with others...they didn't really enjoy the food though, now...
The Hoop Dee Doo we went 3 times & they loved it!!! Atmosphere-food & humor. (A bit cold in there though-bring a sweater!!)
You could always go to both & decide :rotfl2:
Have fun planning!!

:wizard: My DD (23 yr.old) and I had the same dilemma and ended up booking the Luau for August....the food appealed to us more than the HDDR. Hopefully, we made the right choice. :confused3

I'm thinking of the HDDR although I thought the food was awful when we ate there awhile ago. I have teens now and I dont know if they would like this show or not. We did the Luau and were so surprised we liked it after reading reviews here. The food was much bettter than HDDR.

I enjoyed the food at the Luau more, however they are both worth a look. Sorry that probably doesn't help.

I was called up to the front and got a smooch from the guy doing the New Zealand bit, if that's any help. I walked away with tons of Maori paint on my face, DS thought it was so funny, DH not so much!!

The plot of the Luau is a bit iffy, but it was a fun show. HDDR was so much fun also, lots going on. The actors probably had the edge over the Luau folk. DS got the spotlight on him that time.

No contest! Do the Hoop de doo!!! This show is so much fun and I think a family with 3 kids that age will have a blast! The Luau is a nice show but I wouldn't say that it is nearly as much fun.

One thing to consider.
Hoop De Doo is inside and air conditioned.

I might be wrong, but isn't the Luau outside and subject to weather cancellation?

Have you looked into Mickeys Backyard BBQ? My kids (now 17/14..but have gone a few times at earlier ages) seem to like this best of all the dinner shows. I had a good time too, but my favorite is the Luau. My kids got a little bored with the Luau, but loved the food.

None of us are fans of loud corny humor (HDDR).

I have not been to either one so take what I say with a grain of salt. I usually do not reserve the luau. Mainly because if they have inclement weather, the dinner would be cancelled and trying to make last minute reservations would be impossible. It is hard enough to make them within the 180 day mark. We always eat at 'Ohana and I feel that two similar meals would be a bit too much. We live in Kentucky and so the offerings at HDDR seem a bit more comfortable. Also, I have a little boy who would probably enjoy the corny jokes instead of the hula dancers. Now when he is about
16, he would definitely be into watching the hula dancers. Right now he would think it was geared for girls.
