Hi all, I am considering doing the Hoop De Doo Musical Revue next time we are in Disney. How is it? I didn't think Ohana's food was that great so I'm a little concerned that I won't like this other "family style" restaurant but I think my then 6 and 3 yr old will probably like it. What is everyone's opinion?

HDDR is the best Dinner experience at Disney, IMO. Food is fine, not great but good picnic food. The show is the thing. It is great. I did not enjoy O'hana but HDDR is terrific. Completely different "family style" situation.

Our Ratings of Hoop-Dee-Do-Review:
. . . food price value: B
. . . food quality: B-
. . . food quantity per serving: A
. . . food prep speed: B
. . . food selection: C
. . . seating quantity: B
. . . seating comfort: C
. . . eatery atmosphere: B
. . . eatery convenience: B
. . . staff friendliness: B
. . . staff helpfulness: A
. . . character interaction: B (singers, not cartoon character)

NOTE: HDDR is a fun, corny, lively show. The food is well
above average for comfort food. Good show for adults and
children alike.

My family and I love love the Hoop-Dee-Doo and we do it every trip. We'll be there June 8th and can't wait!!!

I did not go for the food... but for the show/ experience...

However was Pleasantly surprised... the Fried Chicken was my Favorite... VERY juicy...crispy

Ribs? Meat fell right off the bone... my sons favorite...

I really enjoyed the salad... The corn bread and strawberry shortcake were tasty ... but I'm not a bread and sweets person...

Service was good. If you are celebrating something on the trip they really help you celebrate at HDDR....

Hope that helps ,
Mary

My husband loved the food. I'm a vegetarian so I had special order vegetables and pasta and it was fine; but it wasn't the "normal" food. Salad and bread was great. The sangria was wonderful or maybe that's just because it was included in the price. The experience itself was great - I think I had low expectations for the show and my family really enjoyed it.

... Edited to add that we did Mickey's Backyard BBQ another time and comparatively Hoop de Doo was 10 times better, in my opinion, both in food quality and the actual "event"/show. (Even though my 4 year old did like dancing with Mickey...)

I'm using TheRustyScupper's scale. :)

I really, really enjoy HDD. It doesn't mean everyone will, I know. But, I have never taken anyone who didn't really like it, too...even the ones who thought they wouldn't.

OK you all have convinced me to try it out! Do you think I should pay the highest price for best seats?

We only paid for cat 1 seating on our last trip, but it paid off. We were seated in the front middle table and were part of several jokes throughout the show. It was really cool, but we were happy with category 2 and 3 seating in the past as well. There really isn't a bad seat and the characters are all over the place for parts of the show so you are involved anywhere you might be sitting.

My DD8 and I hit the Hoop de Doo Revue and have to say the food was excellent in our opinions. The ribs? They fell off the bone but were very messy. Ask for wet towels. The chicken? KFC needs to take lessons from these cooks. The strawberry shortcake? My DD8 not only ate her piece but then reminded me of my diet so she could "help" me by eating my piece too! I thought the beans were good, DD8... not so much.

We always get the Cat 1 seats (as my father is in a wheelchair and we have no alternative), but most people will tell you that there is not a bad seat in the house. Go with what you can afford... It is worth whatever you pay and is the highlight of all our trips.

I've sat almost everywhere. :)

Cat 1 is nice for more than 2 people. I've done the 2-person front row, center, and it is way too close for my taste. You're right on top of the stage looking up. The other 2-people seating I had was off to the right, by the piano. Didn't care for that. I'd rather be in Cat 3 than either of those.

Cat 2 is fine, but I'd still rather be in Cat 3, closer up than in Cat 2 way in the back.

If they don't have enough people to fill the seats, they'll move you from Cat 3 to Cat 2. The last time I booked 2 of us, I booked us in Cat 3 and we ended up sitting all the way in the back in Cat 2. Bummer.

The problem with Cat 3 is that there are poles up there, so you're seated by one, you have to position yourself so that you can see around it. It isn't that big a deal, but they're there. Still, I'd rather have 3 than 2.

However, wherever you are, whatever you're near, you're close enough.

It's a good show. :)

OP: yes, go for Category 1. It's worth it to be downstairs, especially with little kids.
