What do you like better....studios at SSR or OKW?

What is the Savannah view at the AKL?

I'm trying to plan a few nights for my honeymoon and have never stayed on property. I want to know anything about these resorts....

Thank you!

I'd go for the Savannah view at the AKL. My husband and I really enjoyed the AKL. It was really nice to sit on the balcony and watch the animals. Plus Jiko is a great spot for a special dinner.
SSR is nice, but not my idea of romantic. I have not stayed at OKW.

OKW studios have 2 queen beds, more of a hotel feel than SSR or AKV that have one queen and one pull-out couch (which is a better having the sitting area for a romantic escape trip)

I'd lean AKV Savannah view unless you envision nightly DTD trips.. then SSR is more convient.

My husband and I spent our wedding night at AKL, this was before they had AKLV. Anyway the concierge and all AKL staff were wonderful. During our 1 night stay they left several gifts for us including African wine and his and hers African perfume/cologne.

To top it off on our 1 year anniversary the concierge staff called us at home to wish us congratulations.

Haven't stayed at AKV yet but have visited, very unique & especially enjoy places to dine there. You may want to try getting AKV Concierge ( it is extra points but AKV is only DVC resort to offer this ) - access to concierge lounge may be nice way to make your hm more special...although it could be difficult to book since there are a very limited number of villas available for concierge (btw they will all be located in the main AK Lodge < known as Jambo House >; concierge level villas will not be available via the villas in the soon to open Kidani Village (new DVC buildings under construction ).

We own at OKW so we tend to favor it most over other DVCs ( but there is much to like at all DVCs ) but it may be good choice as well ( maybe consider 1 BR villa, it's huge!) - overall it's a very tropical feel, large balconies, lots of quiet locations and also has 3 other pool areas located throughout the resort (in addition to the main pool area) that you may find much more peaceful for relaxing at.
You can rent boats or take OKW-SSR boat to DTD, bike along many beautiful pathways. Here is link to resort map

We like SSR too and if you are interested in spa this is the place ! Also easy walk to DTD.

Not sure how many nights you're planning on but a split stay could be a fun way to try out another resort.

Best wishes on your planning pixiedust:

Haven't stayed at SSR, OKW, or AKV, but I have to agree with the post saying a queen bed and sofa is better than two queen beds. If it is just you two, I think this makes bit of a difference. JMHO

BUT, a one bedroom villa at any of these would be so much nicer for a honeymoon if you can swing the points.

Think - king sized bed, big standup shower, jacuzzi tub. OKW has the biggest jacuzzi tub and probably the biggest standup shower. Could be a little more romance in a one bedroom. :thumbsup2

Hi everyone! Thank you for the help!!!

I know this sounds silly, but does a AKL with a Savannah view (view of animals?) smell?

For us, we are not picky with the size of the bed. Not really the romantic type :rotfl2:

Not a bit. It's nothing like a feedlot where they cram in a bunch of animals just to haul them away in trucks. No smell at all that I noted when we stayed there.

The connecting door in OKW is in the living room of the one bedroom which means you might have to contend with noise like we had to. The connecting door at SSR is tucked behind the kitchen of their one bedroom which will give you more privacy.

Having the couch is a nice feature of SSR too.

I've stayed at both and love both. For a honeymoon, I would choose request Congress Park at SSR for the following reasons:
* view of DTD, and 5 minute walk
* spa
* restaurants (Turf Club at SSR is of my favorite restaurants at WDW)
* proximity to tennis courts, main pool and food court
* transportation (can hop bus to any park at SSR, and to any other resort at DTD)
* SSR is relatively new (opened in 2004, as opposed to 1991).

Here's some additional info that may help you decide. If you look to the left, you'll see all kinds of options, and can even view photos. Hope you guys have a wonderful time, and may God bless! :goodvibes
