Sorry, guys, i know i dont get on here much and when i do, half the time it's to ask for help. but i need to figure something out to write a paper around, on macbeth.

it sounds simple, but i'm stuck. i need to re-write Macbeth as a contemporary short story, but i just cant think of how to do it.

originally, i was thinking i would make macbeth the speaker of the house of reps, and then he could become v.p, and finally, the president, but that is so unoriginal. i think i would lose points. my teacher's example was a lawyer, so i cant do that.

anyone got any ideas for me? please?

thanks.

i think that the president idea is a good one.
it is kinda like how macbeth became king.
i think i would go with that one.
i couldn't have come up with it.

we're analyzing macbeth in my shakespeare course right now, so i'll be glad to be of help!
here's my idea if you do the president one.....
you could have a bill/hilary clinton-esque thing.
because you know how lady macbeth is so ambitious as well and trying to convince macbeth about what to do? well...in a wayyyy (pls don't start any political debating about this, i'm just spitballing! lol) she's sort of like hilary clinton...standing by her man, but really she's got her own agenda.

or if you don't want to do that, i think you just need these KEY points to put in your paper and you could basically choose who you want your characters to be:
1) Macbeth is "in" with the king
2) Macbeth hears the witches prophecy--is it REALLY a prediction of the future? or does it just become a catalyst and make macbeth do the things he did?
3) Upon hearing the prophecy Lady Macbeth becomes power hungry and manipulates Macbeth into killing Duncan. Lady Macbeth becomes this power crazed-ambitious crazy man-woman (she asks the spirits to unsex her--which means take away all of her womanly qualities)
4) After the killing of Duncan and the coronation (*note: wanna really impress your teacher? make a note that Lady Macbeth CROWNS HERSELF--to prove how ambitious and power hungry she is) Macbeth becomes tyrant, killing Banquo and trying to kill his son.
5) The psychological repercussions set in and Lady & Macbeth both start to hallucinate
6) Both die.

So you could make them be like a president & first lady(/VP&wife), or you could make them be...maybe fame-hungry celebrities? something like that, where their ambition drives them to do baaaad things.

Feel free to ask me if you have any more questions, or PM me, as I said, I'm taking a shakespeare course and we just finished up with Macbeth, so it's fresh in my brain.

i really like the celebrity idea. i could do a lot with that, i think

i just thought of something...what if i made them actors in a reproduction of macbeth? how wacky would that be? my class will love it (yeah, i have to read this for them).

any suggestions would be appreciated. by the way, is The Tragedy of Macbeth in quotes or underlined?

Here are my Macbeth notes, I'm not sure if they will help you or not. Good luck though!
