Does anyone know if the homemade ice cream cookie sandwiches at Magic Kingdom are safe for a peanut allergic person? The ones that used to be at the bakery on main street? I emailed Disney Diets and was told the cookies are made in a facility that also processes peanut products. That is not a problem with us as long as it's not on the same machinery, she said nothing about the ice cream. So I sent her another email asking if it was made on the same machinery or just in the same facility and also asked about the ice cream. Of course then I got the standard "ask the chef when you get there" reply. Apparently I asked too much. From experience we've learned the minute we say peanut allergy, they immediately say no and steer us to gluten free. I'd really like to get this information in advance. My son really wants to try one. Done anybody know?

Te ice cream is Eddys since the star bucks took over they don't make those their any more the only place you might be able to get them will be the ice cream polar which is sponsored by Eddys. But I have to guess the Eddys would be made in a facility that makes items with peanuts but Disney dose not make the ice cream not sure if eh make the cookie that why they said that home made could be home made on a factory line from toll house but not sure.

To the best of my memory, my dd hasn't been able to eat any of the baked goods or pastries on any trip. She does eat the soft serve ice cream, the dole whip, and the gelato at the Captain's Grill. If anyone knows of any WDW baked goods that are considered safe for PN/TN allergies, please share.

Two things: first, they have those big ice cream cookie sandwiches at POFQ. We stopped in the food court a few weeks ago and everyone was getting them!

Second, my nephew has an anaphylactic dairy allergy. My SIL asked at the MSB if they had any dairy free cookies. They sold her one for him and after the first bite he started vomiting and goin into shock. 911 was called and responded immediately (during Wishes!) and he was ok afterwards, but it made us all more cautious about what the CMs know about the products. Might want to check further.

She said they are being sold in the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor next door now. I assume the ice cream won't be safe, but I'd like to know for sure.

Some baked goods are safe, but to find out I often have to email disneydiets. For instance the cinnamon rolls are safe at gastons but the frosting is made in the same facility that processes peanut products, but they have some sort of sticky glaze they put over it that's safe. If I had waited until we went, they would have immediately said no. She said to have them make his cinnamon roll seperate without the frosting and that's what we'll do.

We will definitely double check when we get there but I also want to be prepared ahead of time. I'm sorry about your nephew, that's so scary! :(

You can write Eddys and ask but if I had to cause to play on the safe side the ice cream might be made in a plant that make items with nuts in it that also why they tell you to talk to the chef or manager they will know better about the products they serve.

Apparently they don't have dedicated nut free lines. They do a thorough wash down and testing between batches. I guess companies don't have to mark this on their packaging so most likely we've been eating ice cream all along that uses this same practice.

We've never had Edy's ice cream. Hmm. I wonder what company makes the cookie dough. Does anyone know? Or know how I can find out? Is it possible to call the Plaza ice cream parlor?

Edy's is owned by nestle so if it not made by Disney I guess it toll house but again not sure it could be home made but no they won't allow guest to call the restaurant if they want tell you via email then you might have to wait to get to Disney. But I think. Might be wrong after doing more research it looks like they sometimes change it sor the season so they might be home made.

Ot on the west coast edy's goes by the name dryer's that why in Disneyland their ice parlor is sponsored by dryer's

Really OP, I would assume its not safe. Oftentimes, something as simple as the chocolate chips are processed in a facility that processes nuts. The cookies at WDW are baked on the premises. I would assume all the varieties are not safe.

Just bake some homemade cookies and get some safe ice cream and make these for your kid at home. They taste a lot better when they are REALLY home made. This is one Disney treat that is severely overrated. Get some high quality ice cream and do it better at home!

That's a good idea, I'm sure he would love that. Thanks for your help. It just sucks knowing all those goodies are there and I almost always have to say no.

We were told that the vanilla Edy ice cream was safe. That is pretty much what DS ate at every TS place on our trip last year. The chief at the Wave was over the top protective of DS and sent out to another restaurant for this ice cream so he would be sure it was ok. Now, this may have changed, but we went with it, he ate a ton that week and was fine. We avoided the bakeries. We avoid everything toll house as well. Please let me know if you can determine it was safe. We avoid what DS has to avoid and would LOVE one of these again. It's been way too long. We too can do "in factory", but not "on line".

I feel your pain, Minnie. It really does suck. We are going through the same thing. But we have to be strong for our precious kiddos, and teach them to be strong too. I always tell my daughter she is not alone; this is a very common condition. Hugs and many well wishes to you and yours! :grouphug:

Thanks dizcrazee :), my son is 15 now and has had only one reaction when he was 2 and that was to peanut butter. He rarely asks for anything special like this because he knows what the answer will most likely be, so when he told me he heard about these cookies in a disney book and really hoped he could have one I couldn't do less than whatever I can to find out if maybe...just maybe..this time I can say yes. Still digging.....

The ice cream sounds safe so it's all about the cookie. They don't sell anything other than chocolate chunk cookies there in the parlor, so I assume it probably comes down to where those chocolate chunks are made at.

Hi Minnie, my dd is 15 too! Small world, haha! She is allergic to peanuts and all other nuts. Do you use Vermont Nut Free? They sell and ship gourmet chocolate products, and it's delicious! They make all kinds of yummy stuff and do gift baskets. Also, a cookie company called Eleni's in NY ships fabulous, safe decorated cookies. I'm going to have gift baskets of chocolates and the decorated birthday cookies shipped to our hotel when we go to WDW for her 16th birthday in Nov. since they won't make her a safe cake that's not also gluten free. I always do whatever I can to make sure she has something yummy that's safe so she won't feel so bad to have to pass up the other stuff.

We also use a website called Peanut Free Planet. We can get safe Quaker Oats granola bars and Kit Kats shipped to us from Canada through them as well as many other products that are yummy and safe. Oh, and Vermont Nut Free makes a candy called skippers that are just like m&m's. I nearly cried when my dd first got some. I loved m&m's when I was a kid and I was always so sad that she couldn't have them. Not anymore!

Anyway, you probably already know about these companies, but I thought I'd share since they have been a real blessing to us. :goodvibes You can find them all online. Good luck with the ice cream cookie project - let us know what you find out!

It is a small world..lol! We do use both Vermont nut free and Peanut free planet, they have some really great stuff. We have a big container of skippers in our pantry right now! I've never heard of that cookie store. I'll have to check them out. And that's a really good idea of sending a nut free treat basket ahead of time. My boys would love that!

Did you hear about the safe cupcakes at BOG? I'm going to buy extra and bring them back to our hotel. They look really good! :)

That's so neat that you are also a VNF and PFP mom! A small world indeed! I just read about the BOG cupcake, and I'm so excited! I'm not going to mention it yet to dd in case it falls through, but I will be checking them out on our first day at MK for sure!

I think you will be impressed with Eleni's. Their cookies are gorgeous and they have different flavors in addition to the decorated (shaped and iced) variety. I got a box of "beach themed" cookies to take on our beach trip this summer. Adorable and delicious!
