How hard is it to book a reservation in resort that is not your home resort. I have a freind who is buying Saratoga Spring points but he wants to sell his OKW points at a fairly reseonable offer. However we are hooked on the beachclub and wouldnt stay anywhere else. He said he usually books his trips only 3 to 4 months in advance and never has had a problem getting what he wants and it is usually during busy times but not like christmas or new years.
Since you can get 7 months in advance on a non home resort booking has any one had trouble getting what they want?

Thanks

Let's put it this way,

There are 100,000 DVC members. There are less than 200 rooms at the Beach Club. Do you want to compete with just the other Beach Club owners for your reservation eleven (ten, nine, eight) months out, or do you want to compete with all 100,000 members seven (six, five four, three, ....) months out.

There is a thread full of people who are already on the waitlist for December - and the seven month window hasn't even opened yet.

Tdisney, if you are truly committed to the BCV (and why wouldn't you be - I'm an owner and they are divine!!!) then I have to agree that buying a resale at BCV or getting on the Disney waiting list is your best bet. Remember, too, that a "reasonable" offer doesn't mean anything unless Disney forgoes its Right of First Refusal (ROFR) and doesn't buy them back.

I'm always a little leery of the folks who say they haven't had any trouble getting what they want. I don't doubt them, it's just not advice I'd give to a prospective or new owner as a guarantee. What happens the first time you DON'T get what you want? If someone had told me it was no problem, I'd feel angry and irritated. Better to know going in what your chances are at the resort of your choice. The previous poster said it very well - who do you want to compete with for your reservation?

If you are hooked on BCV and wouldn't want to stay anywhere else, I would buy points at BCV. You can purchase directly from Disney or from a reseller such as The Timeshare Store (sponsor of this board, click on the "DVC Resales" link at the top of this page to see what they have available).

You can expect to pay around $90/point plus closing costs if you purchase resale. Disney charges $95(??)/point (not sure of the price -- it was $92/pt but I think there was a price increase recently) but no closing costs, but you might have to wait a while since there is a waitlist for points through Disney.

While I'm sure you would get a much better deal buying your friend's OKW points, you have to decide if the money you save will be worth it if you can't get into BCV when you want to. Now all of this assumes that you will be making your reservations 8-11 months in advance. If you can not normally plan more than 7 months in advance, then it doesn't matter where you own points.

Also not like October or November because of the Food & Wine Fest, not like December because it is THE most popular time for DVC reservations (low points), or like March and/or April because of Spring breaks and Easter, or like summer and all school vacations because of Stormalong Bay, etc, etc

In short, BCV is the smallest DVC resort. If that is the ONLY place you'd be happy staying you'd best buy there.

To sum up; As long as your stays are from mid-January through February (non-holiday) you should be fine.

Regardless of the slower times, it's unreasonable not to buy a specific resort if one plans essentially all the trips there. The meager savings from other resorts is not worth the aggravation and potential risk.

I'll take BWV over BCV anyday.
