Home Resort Regrets?

Has anyone ever regretted their choice of "Home Resort?" For instance, you bought OKW thinking that this is where you would like to stay most -- but could kick yourself for not buying BCV because you find that over time & through more experience you like that resort better?

Does my question even make sense?

Hi,

We have yet to stay @ our home (BCV) but we love HH! Maybe down the road we will get a few points there. We do not regret our decision @ BCV.

How long have you owned at BCV?

No, we love BWV's. The only regret we have is not enough $ to buy points at HH, VB, OKW, WLV and BCVS and now SSR's! But the nicest part of owning DVC is knowing that if we wish to we can book at these resorts at the 7 month window! So we are not limited to BWV's at all. In fact, it's an adventure to go to the other resorts for a time! We love DVC!

So far, we've only stayed at our little add-on home, VWL and we loved it so very much. Am a bit sorry we didn't try again at a resale there. However, we really really love an Epcot location because we've stayed at the Dolphin a few times, and so we do expect to be very happy when we stay at BWV, Dec. '04. No regrets!

Not a single regret, except for not buying more points at BWV when the prices were still low and the points were still available.

My only regret is I did not buy into DVC many years earlier.

We own at BCV, and we love it! :smooth:

We purchased at OKW in 1997 and have never stayed there. We always stay at BWV standard view. But no regrets because we have always been able to book without a problem. Although we are now considering selling, it is not because of the resort, but because we feel Disney'd out and think a Marriott or Starwoods would meet our needs better.

I did.Our first purchase was Vero Beach. We never stayed there and even if we had,we knew we would end up staying at WDW more.We did an add on at VWL to have an 11 month advantage.Fast forward a few years and we decide to move to Florida. We sold Vero and planned on selling VWL next but the move has been cancelled and we are staying in NJ.The only good thing that came out of all of it was the Vero sale.We were paying higher dues for a resort we weren't going to use. We actually made a couple of bucks and replaced our Vero points with SSR.
We are much happier having VWL and SSR as our Home resorts. Honestly,I would probably be happy with any of the WDW DVC resorts as a home resort.Nothing against Vero, but we made a bad decision to buy there with the intention of only going to WDW.Made no sense to pay higher dues for something we weren't going to use.

Well, I will reserve judgement on our home BWV -- I think we need a FEW more trips there, and under different family circumstances, to know for sure if another resort would have suited us better.

We had a brief regrets fling when we visited VWL (we bought in '99 and VWL opened for sale a few mos later).

There is really only ONE thing about our home (BWV) that we did not care for: the lack of a dedicated 2br. Now, maybe, in a few yrs, when our kids are teens and they want to "do their own thing", I'll be thankful for that extra door and BWV's proximity to the action, so the kids can do their own thing. But for now, with 3 young'uns, we just prefer the dedicated 2brs of other resorts. And eventually, dh and I would like to travel WITHOUT the kids (ooo -- wow -- whatever would we DO?!?!), so a 1br would be fine. Maybe then the lack of a dedicated 2br won't seem so bad, and we'll be even more thrilled with our home-choice.

We own at BCV but so far it's my least favorite. We love OKW and the Wilderness Lodge. It's not a real problem because we like Beach Club and probably will want to stay there more as the kids get older. But I like to stretch my points, and Beach Club is just too pricey. It's hard to justify when I consider the OKW chart! When I "spring" for lots of points, I usually think "Wilderness Lodge" because of its wonderful atmosphere and proximity to the MK. I think I love it because it reminds me of camping every summer at Ft. Wilderness when I was a kid.

The only thing that worries me is the prediction that as DVC grows, it will be harder to stay anywhere other than home resort. Only then would I really regret owning at BCV, because I wouldn't want to stay there "every time."

Not only does it make sense, it describes me and DH perfectly. Unfortunately we had to take out a loan on our purchase and the whole "change home resorts" thing would involve juggling too much right now (hey, we're already juggling 2 home mortgages, until our first house sells!), so financially it's just not in the cards right now. However, give us a few more years, then we'll juggle and hopefully become OKW owners.

Bought at OKW in 1997 and been very happy with OKW. No regrets here!

I doubt you will have anything to worry about as far as getting into OKW but WLV I can see a definite possibility of booking problems at 7 months.

Yes and no. We first bought at VB because our guide told us that as long as we weren't planning on going to WDW during the busy times (summer, holidays and school breaks) that we would have no problem getting ressies at the 7 month window. I didn't know that anything like this board existed then, so we purchased 150 points at VB. Then we decided we needed more points and waited a year for BCV to come along and purchased 100 BCV points. Then came a trip to VWL the first week of December in 2002. Had to waitlist and got our final night two weeks before we left. That was close!! That's when we (I) decided we needed points at VWL. That was the only trip we had problems with within the 7 month window. We stayed at VB once, liked it, and will stay there again, but most of our trips will be to WDW and would rather have all our points there.

I regret purchasing BCV, wish I had bought more OKW instead.

I have been able to use my OKW points at bcv, every 7 month window, that I wanted.

If I had bought okw instead of BCV. I would pay 40 cents per point, less in annual dues.

many tell me that this is not a big deal, but on 425 points it is $170 per year, or $6500 over the next 38 years

Yep. I wish we woudl ahve bought at VWl instead of BCV. We had a choice thru DVC, but only one use year left for VWL at the time and it was not a use year we thought woudl be good for our travel dates. So BCV it was.
I also regret not waiting for SSR. When we bought at BCV the rumors were flying about the longer contract date, but I was anxious to buy. I think the longer date woudl have been good for us. We're in our early 30s and I wodul have liked future generatiiosn to have enjoyed it.
BCv will do, though. ;)

Initially bought BWV and are still very happy with that purchase!

Added on at HH after staying there, but haven't been back since. HH points, however, have enabled us to take the Disney Cruise, and we do plan on going back to HH soon.

So...

No Regrets

We used to stay at WL all the time prior to DVC building there. I had been thinking about DVC for a long time and was considering buying when the villas at WL were announced. I decided to buy at BWV in 1998 because WLV were still quite a ways from being done.

I have never regretted my decision. I am thrilled with BWV and haven't even stayed at WLV. I still love the lodge, but am glad my 11 month windown is at BWV, as this is where I would now prefer to be most of the time. I still want to try WLV, as I have stayed at OKW and BCV.

A year after buying OKW we added on with an equal number of points at the newly opened VB. We don't stay at VB much and probably never will. No real regrets but it would probably have been smarter to add on at OKW for us.
