I've decided to paint the walls of my bedroom to match the new linens I bought. The only concern I have is that the color I want, red, may be a little too much for that particular room. I was thinking of doing one wall red, and the rest in a cream color (also to match the linens).

Does anyone know if there is any website that will simulate what a room looks like once the walls are painted? Does such a thing exist??

Anyone with experience with color on their walls have any idea if this will look stupid? I don't want to paint, then decide I hate it. I've never painted one wall a different color than the others in the same room.

Broderbund has a great software called 3D Home Architect. You can download a full version from their website for a free 15 day trial. You can colour the walls, put in wallpaper etc and it'll show you what things will look like. Takes a little bit of playing with, but once you get used to it it's very easy to use.

I like the idea of one wall being a different color. If you are going with red, be sure to put a really good coat of tinted primer underneath your paint. My sister painted her room burgundy without using primer and it turned out uneven and streaky looking.
Have fun, I love redecorating.

We've done something similar. I think the most important thing is picking the wall that will be painted red. IMHO, I think it looks best when the wall that your bed is against is the one painted a different color, or a wall next to it where you want to display art or something like that. I think that one red wall, with the rest vanilla and stark white trim will look beautiful! Sounds like a page right out of the pottery barn catalog - my second favorite after the Disney catalog!!!:p

Just a warning for using red paint - take caution! The store you purchase it from will probably try to sell you a tinted primer. We decided to not buy it due to budget and it turned out fine. It just needed 3 coats as opposed to two, which was still cheaper than buying all that primer. Also, it can look patchy or washed out in certain spots. So even if you're just doing one wall, I would buy a gallon so you have enough for touch ups.

Good luck! I hope it turns out beautifully!! :earsgirl:

Thanks for the ideas! I'm going to try to download that software at home (I'm at work now and don't think they'd appreciate that very much).

PryncessChrysty, I am actually considering painting the wall the bed is against. Sort of like a giant headboard, if that makes any sense.

Here's another question: I have two windows in that room. One is on the wall to be painted red and the other is on what will be an off-white wall. What do you think about a red curtain on the red wall and a cream-colored curtain on the cream-colored wall? I need curtains there and think that having them blend in would probably be the best idea.

In our bedroom I painted the wall the bed is against a deep burgundy and the other 3 walls a tan color. The burgundy wall has 2 windows and I used curtains that matched the tan wall color. I was very pleased how it turned out and it actually makes the rooms appear larger.

As PrycessChrysty pointed out plan on doing many coats of the red.

Seems to be a thing going around, I too am redecorating, but DDs' rooms. If you find such a "simulation site" please please PM me the site, I would REALLY like to use that.

I don't know if you have a Lowe's building supply store where you live, but in the paint section they have a computer that you can select different room types and use different paint and trim colors to see which would look the best. I found it extremelly helpful when we redecorated our house.
