Lowe's mistreats their employees at times. I won't shop there.

explain please. because i work for lowes and in general i gave found nothing about the experience of working for this company that i would say was mistreating employees. granted, lowes store managers do get a lot of leeway in day to day operations, and like any company one location may well be worse than another, but in my experience ( 21 yeras as a contractor) lowes has always been more informed overall,(ie, first employee did not know answer, but could find someone that does) and more helpful.

What times? I'll tell dh to take off from work then ;) He has nothing but good stuff to say about them. (only part time for 6m now) My other friend is 3rd in command there she loves it too.

Oh and Lowes. I can't find anything in Home Depot. I dont like their lay out of the store around me.

 full time for one year next week here, nothing but good from me too. and i love it there

I didn't vote because there was no option for either. We shop at both, buy stuff from both, have made major purchases from both, and will continue to do so in the future. We find which one has what we like most, and if both do then we go with the best price.

I don't like either, particularly. We have a couple of locally owned companies that are much, much better. The employees have a clue and you can actually find some of them when you need them.

Of the two choices though, I like Lowe's better. Home Despot gives me hives.

Dh would LOVE to go full time there but there is NO way they could pay him what he get's at his primary job,he's been offered and turned down full time at least 4 times now. They pay is great for the area its just he's been at biglots for almost 8 years, many many raises later he's at the top of the scale. (big lots distribution center is his primary job) :thumbsup2

I really should have mentioned that location makes a big difference with any retail establishment. Let's just say that someone close to me went through hell involving Lowe's corporate and another person I know only slightly was given quite a hard time too in another separate incident at a store.

My experience only, YMMV. But it was an honest answer.

I've never heard that Lowes mistreats employees. I've always heard that their benefits package is pretty good for the hourly workers.

I really don't prefer one over the other. We were in Home Depot this weekend buying a gas grill for the deck and it was HARD to get an employee. It's not like I've never had that happen at Lowes though.... You know, you're standing there in the middle of an aisle going.

"I'd like to buy something......please......can somebody who works here please come over and let me buy something from you......please......."

I know that both store reported their revenues last week or so and sales were WAY down at both. I imagine they're all cutting hours of the employees trying to compensate.

Find a customer in the store who knows exactly what they want, doesn't need any assistance and doesn't want to be hassled. That's usually where the workers hang out.

I used to prefer Lowes, but since they open a Home Depot less than a mile from my house I go there.

Lowe's

It is more geared to the home owner, personal consumer type, as where Home Depot is more for contractors and professionals

Lowe's mistreats their employees at times. I won't shop there.

Another who wants to add that it is not Lowe's as a whole that mistreats their workers. I helped open my closest store, worked FT for 8 months and then PT for 4 months. I had issues with certain supervisors, but they were small compared to the great way the store manager treated me. (When he found out why I left, he told me I should have said something to him first)

But, each store is going to be different, depending on the store manager.

I Love Home Depot:love: ...I know where everything is and they treat us really good. I have bought one thing from Lowes and the employee acted like i was bothering him because he had to get it off the top shelf! Never been back!
This is how I feel when I go to Home Depot. Was just there this past Saturday looking at grills. We wanted to see one that was assembled, but way up high for some reason. The worker said he would not get it down, there was no reason for us to look at it since all that was in it was the grates. Whatever, we for one like to feel out a grill first. We left and I doubt will ever go there again, unless Lowe's does not have what we want.

I love my Lowe's store. It helps that a lot of my former co-workers are still there, but everyone is always helpful. If they don't know what I am looking for, they ask the next worker. This was something the store manager drilled into us, plus never pointing in the direction something is, walking the customer to it.

I could go on and on about my Lowe's, but like someone else said, YMMV depending on the location.
