Has anyone used these in their scrapbooks? Are they safe??? What did you use them for?

TIA!
Brenda

I see that lots of people use them... but I wonder the same thing... are they safe????

I have some , but I plan to use them as id's for our disney cruise luggage and badges . I'm not sure that they are in less safer than some of the other stuff we put in scrapbbooks . If this is a big concern I would put on buffered paper or spray with archival mist .

as long as they don't touch a photo it should be safe right? So maybe if I used them as page corners they'd be ok? Can someone explain archival spray? I'm new to all this & don't want to mess it up!

TIA!
Brenda

ok why couldnt they be used with photos?
Sorry new to scrapping...

I am not sure how good I will be at answering this , but since I mentioned the archival mist I will try . It is a spray that you can put on memorabalia that you may consider not photo safe or acid free . My understanding is that it nuetralizes the harmful stuff . Does that make sense ? As far as the paint chips ., I am not sure if they have acid in them , so the "safe" thing to do would be not use them on pages with your pictures . Now me personally , I am not sure this is any less safe than some of the "medal" stuff we add to our albums . Frankly , I doubt my albums will disintegrate before a very long , long, time . ( just my opinion ).

I read on a board recently that these chips are very acidic. I am using some but not anywhere near my photos.

So are you saying that you wouldn't put them on a page with photos or would you do so, but keep them how far away from the photos?

It's my understanding that as long as they don't touch the photos, it's ok. Of course, some people are totally fanatical about acid/lignin free but I'm not.

I just want my albums to last until I'm senile...after that, they can go in the trash as far as I care.

I have some too. My LSS owner actually gave them to me. I think part of the problem could be if the acid leeches into the paper and then spreads to other pictures on the page. I guess you could prevent this by matting it or spraying it. I plan to use them I think on a page that is all memorbilia. Not sure yet.

I usually mat my photos so that shouldn't be a problem...perhaps an extra precaution would be to mount the mickeys on another piece of paper for extra 'cushion'.

I plan on using the ones I have as well, but I have also laminated mine first...I am surprised at how easy them come off the white paper!

Nicki Dahling...what a great idea for luggage tags!! :)
