my boys are on the cape. How am I suppose to make it through the night? I am tired and hopefully Im tired enough. I locked the doors & windows, we usually dont shut the windows. Should I sleep on the 1st floor or 2nd? Im taking the phone by my side but how do I get these creepy thoughts out of my mind?

When I'm here by myself, I pile all the dachshunds in the bed with me. They are my security system. ;)

Check all the doors, windows, etc for peace of mind. Then if your bedroom has a TV keep it on all night maybe? Sometimes the sound on low and the light will lull you to sleep. I'm sure everything will be fine.:D

Since, I am such a big, big chicken when it comes to sleeping in the house by myself. So, I lock all the doors and triple check all of them. Keep the phone by myside, stretch out in my recliner and sleep. Thankfully, we have some good watchdogs. But, I swear they will start barking on purpose just to scare the stew out of me. I can see them now, whispering to themselves. They are saying see, she is asleep or almost asleep. Do you want to see her jump? Then they start barking.

Ugadog99 do you have long, wire or shorthair dachshunds?

Keep your TV on. It will cover up the normal sounds that houses make in the middle of the night.

I am going to be alone for practically the entire week next week and the worst part is it is because my girls are going to Disneyland with their dad. I think that is just not fair :)

Here's one security measure I learned years ago that I haven't forgotten. If you have two cordless phones, like one downstairs, and one in the bedroom, take the one that's downstairs with you.

If an intruder enters your home, he won't be able to take your phone off the hook. As you probably already know, if you take one cordless phone off the hook, the other one won't work.

Other than that, just make sure everything is locked up good and tight!

When DH is out of town, I always keep a small weapon (knife, scissors) and keep it close by my bed!

Similar to Blondie's advice, when I was in the house by myself, I slept with my cell phone right next to my bed. I double checked all the locks, and stayed up extra late so that when I went to bed I was really tired instead of laying in bed awake for longer.

is lock everything up, sleep on the couch with the television on. I am such a super coward.

I am home alone tonight too. Kids are with friends and DH is working....

Its amazing how boring it gets without the kiddies here...

I turn on the house alarm and sleep like a baby. We also have two dogs, one is quite large, inside the house. Before we built our new house, we didn't have an alarm and my DH worked the overnight shift. Then I did worry constantly. The alarm has been worth every single penny!!

When I am alone for the night I usually turn the TV on and fall asleep to that. Without even realizing, it kind of makes people think that someone is up when they see that light on in the house. I hope you are sound asleep by now, but doing it soundly too :)

My DH pulled midnight shift for almost two years. I made sure every door was locked, the cordless was by the bed and the dog (german shepard) was in the room. I also had the security of having various weapons in the house by me.

I still will stay up extra late if he is working late. Let me just say that in DH line of work, I HATED midnight shift.

My DH works all night on weekends throughout the summer. I keep the doors locked, but I am not obsessive about it. I will spend time on my patio when DH is not around. I feel very safe in my home, and in my neighborhood. I am not scared to be alone at night. Actually, I enjoy this time to myself.

Keep T.V. and all lights on....works for me!!!!!

I always turn QVC on because it is nothing scary or disturbing (like a scary movie or the news which is sometimes unnerving). Like Blondie, I also have a weapon nearby.

Ok Ya all NO laughing.....when DH is away on one of his week or two boat trips (its a job, someone has to do it LOL) and son is not going to be home,,I call my sister or best friend and we do a WALK THROUGH of the house _LOL REALLY,, I go to every room, look in every closet, under every bed,, behind every shower curtain, and then in the gagage...I have no idea why them being on the phone helps but it does,,then I have my phones (all cordless) in room with me and my cell is right on my pillow!! I am a bigggggggggg baby when it comes to this,,but I feel better knowing I am starting OUT AT LEAST (LOL) with ONLY me in the house----oh yes and SHOWER in the day time LOL..Then I talk on the phone to anyone who will listen til all hours of the night.....OH thank God hubby home tonight now I am freaked out LOL,

We've got a security system and a large dog. And when the alarm was installed I remember the installer telling me to keep a bat next to our bed and a can of RAID. He said some of these people breaking in have developed an immunity to pepper spray. Get them with Raid.
