We've drove to St. Louis this week to have Thanksgiving with my family (23 of us). We ranged from 1 year old to 66. The only one missing was my 22 year old nephew who is in Iraq.

My nephew Adam, whom I've asked for prayer alot for, looks so good. He is living on half a heart, but you'd never know by his energy. His parents were told that he'd have less energy and give out earlier than most two year olds, but that hasn't happened yet. He's such a miracle to see.

We played Pinochle till 2:00 a.m. most nights, played Trivial Pursuit, talked, laughed, cried, and generally had a great time.

The best part was my daughter getting engaged! She lives in Topeka. She called me Sunday and said she and Matt were taking a tour of the capital building, and might be able to go all the way to the top. They had to get a special escort. She wasn't very excited to tour the capital, but Matt was excited, so she went with a good attitude. When they got to the top, she asked if they could see Matt's dad's office from there, as he works just across the street. Matt had binoculars, and had her look. She saw huge signs in the windows across from her that read, "Sarah, will you marry me." She said she was speechless. She had no idea that this was what the "tour" was about. She then turned and he was on one knee.

She called me just after, but we were on our way to Topeka, somewhere in western Kansas, and my phone had no service, so she left a message saying to call her as soon as possible, but it was not an emergency. I called her and left her a message once my phone was back in service. She called me back and told me, I cried, of course. Her dad knew all along what was going on because Matt had called him last Thursday to ask for her hand. He did not tell me because he figured I might give it away with excitement in my voice, and he's probably right. I thought it was a very romantic engagement. Every time she retold her story this weekend, my sisters cried.

Anyway, this weekend reminded me of all the things I should be Thankful for. Just wanted to share a bit of happiness with my closest e-friends.
:p
Now it's time to start planning this wedding.

Awww.:) Congrats to Sarah and Matt.:)

I'm glad to hear your nephew is doing well.:)

What a romantic guy your daughter has found!! It sounds like you've had a wonderful holiday weekend and will be basking in the glow of good feelings - ENJOY!!

That is so sweet:D Congratulations

How wonderful! Sounds like a very memorable holiday season!

Holycow

It sounds like you had a wonderful holiday! Congratulations to Sarah and Matt!:sunny:

Congratulations to your DD & to you getting a SIL..:D

It's kind of weird thinking I'll have a son-in-law, but I like Matt a lot. Sarah brought friends home all through college. The first time, at the beginning of her Freshman year, she brought home one of her roommates and her boyfriend, and some other friends. The roommates boyfriend was Matt. Stephen took Sarah aside then, way back in her Freshman year, and asked her why she couldn't like Matt. Sarah just laughed and said they were too good of friends to fall in love. Well, Daddy was right. If our kids would just listen to us in the first place, they would have so little heartache, lol.

oh, wow! What a great weekend for you and yours.

My congrats to the happy couple, and to you, too! I'm looking forward to all the threads about the wedding plans.

Thanks Pebblszzz! I'm sure there'll be a lot of wedding threads, as well as honeymoon planning threads. We are not paying for the wedding, his family is. We are paying for the WDW honeymoon, and they want me to plan the whole thing. I've already got DVC reservations for 5 nights at Beach Club Villas and two nights at Vero Beach. The wedding is 5/29.

I am excited about the planning, and Sarah wants me to be very involved.

Just a side note. Sarah told me that if I wasn't her mom, I'd be an up on the stage with her as her matron of honor. Of course, I cried. She wanted me to sing, but I said no. There's no way I would be able to do that and not cry the whole time. She understood, and knew I wouldn't do it, but asked anyway. We have a great relationship.

Why can't you be her matron of honor just because you're her mom? One of my friends had his dad as his best man. JMO, but I think it would be incredibly touching and sweet. I was my mother's maid of honor when she married my step-father, when I was 14.

Congratulations to you all!

The main reason I don't want to be her matron of honor is that I I'll cry like no other and I don't want to make a spectacle of myself. It's her day, and I don't want to ruin it. Also, want to be with Stephen, he keeps me sane, and if I'm on stage, he'll be sitting alone (my other daughter, Kimmi, is maid of honor) I am quite okay with just lighting the candle (Matt's mom and I will do that) and supporting her.

I can totally understand where you are coming from. For my own wedding, I was shaking uncontrollably. I mean really shaking. I looked like I was having a seizure. :hyper:

My DD is only 10 months old, but I know I will be a complete wreck if/when she gets married.

You could have made a rest stop here:earsboy: Only about 2.5 hours to Topeka:D
