Both are at MGM right? Which would you prefer? In attendance is myself, DH, DS13,DS4.:confused3
Thanks!

Although neither are a fav of ours, if we had to choose we would pick the SciFi. We had terrible service at the Hollywood & Vine and they kept running out of food and took forever to replenish it. However, if you want a character breakfast at MGM, then Hollywood & Vine would be the one you'd want. SciFi has decent burgers and great shakes.

DS13 is going to enjoy Sci Fi much more. You sit in little cars in a pretend drive-in and watch clips from old black and white monster movies while eating a burger and sipping on drinks that having glowing ice cubs. What can be more fun than that.

The cars seat 2 to a seat. Put your 4 year old in the driver position which he'll think is way cool. Either have DS13 (if he's willing to help little brother if need be) sit next to him and you and DH sit in the seat behind them.

This was our kids' favorite place. Now the kids are in their 20s and still love it here.

Food is not outstanding at either place so go for the atmosphere.

Sci Fi. We didn't find the food great, but the atmosphere was phenomenal!!!

We went to Sci-Fi for a dinner, it was very disappointing. I had been looking forward to going because it looked really neat and was hard to get into. Well, the food was just bad (I don't say that often) and over priced. Since that time, I have done more looking at the descripancies and it appears that lunch at Sci Fi is a different menu and better (burgers, etc).

I probably wouldn't go again, except for lunch. Haven't done Hollywood and Vine, so I am not help there.

If your planning on eating, then it has to be H & V. The food at Sci-Fi was terrible, though the place is neat, thats hardly a recommendation. We really enjoyed the food at H & V, though it gets plenty of bad reviews, IMO they are from people that dont like buffets to begin with. We actually did both on the same day and I would never eat at Sci-Fi again (well maybe just for their shakes).

we ate dinner at h and v in sept and thought the food was good. I would eat there again. There was no character meal for dinner(I hate character meals) and it was buffet style

We love Sci Fi, but our rule of thumb there is to go at lunch and keep it simple. They don't seem to excel at the gourmet type fare, we stick to lunch with a cheeseburger and milkshake and are always very happy with our meal.:)

we are simple people! My DS 13 is very picky so I try to stick w/ buffets where I know he will eat SOMETHING! DS4 loves Einsteins so I guess H&V wins...thanks for the info!:cool1:

Neither are our favorite but if we had to chose it would be Sci-Fi. We have eaten at both places and H & V had horrible service & food. Sci-Fi had ok service and ok food.

DH & I liked SciFi. We got burgers and shakes, and the onion rings were good, too. It was nice to be out of the FL heat for a while. And the movie clips were fun!
[Incidentially, I am one of those people a PP refered to as buffet-haters ;) ]

We have eaten at the Sci-Fi twice and had a great experience both times. We enjoyed the food (not fancy but good) and the atmosphere is cool.

We do not like H&V for lunch or dinner BUT we rather enjoyed the breakfast. The selection was good, food was pretty good, and character interaction was very good.

So if you are going for lunch or dinner... I would say the Sci-Fi. If you want to do two meals in MGM, hit both!

H&V was the worst buffet we've encountered at WDW. We loved Sci-Fi, though....food and atmosphere were both great!:thumbsup2

We adore the character breakfast and lunch at H&V. We did not like the dinner there. Sci Fi is much better at lunch in my opinion, as you can't really go wrong with a burger and milk shake

For our trip at the end of january we are doing both the H&V character breakfast (before the park opens) and a late lunch at Sci-Fi since DH and I really like the atmosphere. I just couldn't pick between them, and I am just hoping for the best. If we really aren't all that hungry, we can just get a milkshake and call it a day!

I do agree with several of the PP's that when you look at the menu, lunch is much better since you can order a burger or turkey sandwich, and for some reason, that just seems to go with the theme so much better than more complex type food.

We thought the food was really average at best at H&V. We loved :lovestruc SCI-Fi. However, we did what many recommend to do there. We went for lunch and kept it simple. We had burgers, onion rings and milkshakes and they were all excellent! And of course my kids loved the atmosphere.
HTH!:)
