I'm planning our next DIS vacay for sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas 2015. It will be me, DH, and DS12 (and possibly one of his friends). We have been to DW several times, but never during this time of year. Our usual time is late September/early-mid-October, so we're used to low season crowds. I have two available time periods for the trip: November 27-December 6, or December 11-20. Any tips, suggestions, recommendations, things I should consider? We will do MVMCP and I'm really excited about the story tellers in Epcot (that's why I decided that it has to be after Thanksgiving). All advice appreciated.

That a tough call. On the first option, the first few days after Thanksgiving will be crowded. By Sunday, the crowds will drop. By Monday for sure, the crowds will be light. We did Thanksgiving this year up to the Tuesday and on that day we were walking on all kinds of rides at the MK. Starting on Monday after Thanksgiving, the crowds should be slightly lighter than they would be the week of 12/14. For that reason, I am not sure if it makes that much of a huge difference unless you don’t want to deal with the crowds the first few days after Thanksgiving. If you are flying in, the cost of flight might be a deciding factor? We have visited during this time frame a few times. We have gone the week of Thanksgiving recently but we are going around 11/27-12/5 this year to enjoy the lighter crowds.

As a note, if you are doing MVMCP, I would pick another night other than the first Sunday after Thanksgiving. That’s a busy party for sure coming off the break for Thanksgiving. I would also consider Candlelight processional.

One of other small thing in case it was a must do, the tree most likely won’t be up in the MK for your first option. I will be up for second option.

I would pick your first set of dates. We were there 12/11-12/17 this past December. 12/11 was nice, but the crowds just became heavier as the days wore on. They were definitely manageable, but by 12/17, MK was packed. Obviously not like the week between Christmas and NY, but we were happy to be leaving on 12/17. The Thanksgiving crowds will be gone by 11/29, so you will probably only have 2-3 really crowded days. You'll have all the benefits of the Christmas season, and probably slightly lower crowds.

We did MVMCP. I'm glad we did it, but once was enough. I think you will have an easier time because you'll have older children.

I also wanted to add that coming back on 12/17 made it very stressful getting everything ready for Christmas and we all came back sick. 10 Disney trips without illness, but this trip got us. DD caught strep. I had all of my Christmas shopping and wrapping done before we left, but it was still a lot with Christmas a week later. So that may be something to consider. I'm glad we went, but we'd definitely go earlier in December or November next time.
