Does your family have any???We have some being Italian we always eat late on Christmas eve and no meat only fish. I am also responsible for decorating the tree at the bottom with a hand-made nativity set my grandfather made. On Thanksgiving the men always watch Football together, while the women cook and chat.

We have so many, but my favorites are the ones we started when we had kids. Every year, we go to the store with the kids go and buy some gifts (we give $, but also have the kids spend some of their $ as well) , we then take them to the Children's hospital to be given out on Christmas.

We also go to the Police station or Fire station on Christmas and provide them with a goodie basket and a thanks for working so hard for all of us.

And every year my family gets together to do a special Christmas outing.


NOW a traditional Latvian thing.......
When children are little, they have to recite a poem, or play an instrument before they can get their first gift. I did it when I was little, and now my kids "have" to do it too! It is quite special to feel the cultural bond of a centuries old tradition!
