It says (on allearsnet) on some menus "Special pricing may apply during specific times of the year". Somewhere else it lists the dates. Well, we fall within those dates, but I dont know how much this surcharge will actually be. We will be there at easter.

Does anyone know how much extra it will be? At this point we are not doing the DDP, but maybe it would be worth it if all these restaurants (eg Boma, Cape may, Chef Mickeys, etc) are charging extra...

Subscribing because I was jsut wondering about this myself. The entire month of June (when we'll be going) is "holiday pricing", which is really stupid since there's no actual holiday in June, unless you count Flag Day!

I'm kind of hoping they quietly drop the idea of holiday pricing. Of course, we have the option of eating in our villa, and plan to do that a lot, but not everyone is so fortunate. When they started holiday pricing this year, the economy was in better shape. Now, Disney is looking at ways to lure more people down.

The last I heard the surcharge was $4.00...... that was in 2007 so I would expect it to be between $6 to $8 per person. :goodvibes

Such seasonal pricing will be implemented at the following dining locations during peak seasons:

-- 1900 Park Fare
-- Akershus
-- Biergarten
-- Boma
-- Cape May Cafe
-- Chef Mickey's
-- Cinderella's Royal Table
-- Crystal Palace
-- Garden Grill
-- Hollywood and Vine
-- Liberty Tree Tavern (dinner only)
-- 'Ohana
-- Trails End
-- Tusker House

Upcoming peak times that will see the seasonal price increases are:
December 16, 2008 - January 3, 2009
April 5 - April 18, 2009
May 24 - July 11, 2009

Also: "Many menus around the World reflect recent price increases. At Le Cellier in Epcot, for example, most appetizers increased by $1.00, while the mushroom stuffed filet and New York Strip Steak jumped from $29.99 to $34.99. Chicken and prime rib entrees are also up $1.00."

It was the holiday surcharge that clinched getting the DDP for us. Between all the buffets and the candlelight processional dining package, we are more than getting our money's worth!

Everything I read puts the price increase at approximately $4 per adult and $2 per child, but it may vary at different restaurants.

There is no increase associated with using the dining plan. It may be the way to go if you're going over the holidays and you want to eat at a lot of buffets.

OH NO!

We are going in June too... does this just affect table service restaurants??? Or are counter service places affected too?

I totally agree. The dining plan is always a value for us, but we will save an additional $200.00 on holiday surcharges by using the DDP.

Post #4 has the restaurants that charge the holiday surcharge.

It affects only buffets and all you can eat fixed price meals.

$4/adult sounds right; I think I was factoring in the tax savings too when using the dining plan.

If you do several dinner buffets it makes the dining plan worthwhile.

We have the Tables in Wonderland card (DDE) and I cannot decide if it would be better to use the DP or not.

Is it based off your nights there?
We are 5 nights and 6 days.

Anyone know the price?

The basic dining plan for 2008 is $37.99 per night for adults (age 10 and over) and $9.99 per night for children age 3-9. For that price you get 1 TS, 1 CS and 1 snack credit per night. If you are staying 5 nights you would pay for 5 nights. I'm assuming you have an annual pass if you have TIW, so it's possible you could book an AP dining plan package without the requirement to buy park tickets, if there's availability.

If you are going over the holidays, remember that TIW has blackout dates on major holidays (there are upcoming blackouts on December 24, 25 and 31 and January 1). That may be another argument for using the dining plan if you are thinking of booking table service restaurants (that accept the plan) for any of those days.

I booked a room only with a discount code so I'm not sure if I can even add the dining plan.

These are the places we have booked for dining and I'm just not sure it's worth it since they are buffets. I suppose I should run the numbers.

H&V x 2
Sci Fi
Tusker for lunch
Crystal Palace for lunch
Whispering Canyon for breakfast
Plaza (not sure what this is?)

No, you can not add the dining plan to a room only reservation. You have to have a Magic Your Way package with room and tickets to add the DDP. If you are seriously thinking of doing this then you need to call and check for availability today. The dining plan would save you money vs. out-of-pocket.

If you booked with an annual passholder code, it may be possible to get that discount transferred to an AP package with dining - no ticket purchase required. Your reservation would no longer be a room only reservation - it would be a package - so you would have to consider things like the cancellation, payment and change rules for packages.

Once again I am assuming that because you are not located in Florida and you have a TIW membership, there is at least one adult in your party who has an annual pass. If so, it may be worth it for you to call and check on the annual passholder room/dining package.

Sci-Fi, Plaza and Whispering Canyon are not buffets. The seasonal increase won't affect them.

I am on the phone now, but I'm sure with a 43% discount on a room, I won't get the dining plan which is fine.

We already have tickets too...I have an activated AP as well.

I never thought we'd go at Christmas. Booked the trip yesterday:woohoo:

I may just use the TIW card and call it a day.

You can add a dining package to an AP room w/o buying tickets. As of last year, they've made it so that don't need to purchase tickets (b/c you're an AP holder) but you may need to give them your AP info.[/quote]

I know, but the other poster did not mention he had an AP until after I had already posted that info.
