I'm esp. thinking of jewelry. You keep seeing it 60% off with an extra 10 off today only. Do you really think you are getting a good deal or are prices higher during the holidays?
I prefer sales that say a flat price. Whenever there are percentages it never seems to work out as well.

Not really. On clothing yes--on jewelry definitely not. The markup is pretty high and I think they are getting away with profiting nicely even when it is on sale.

I always find it funny when JC Penny kept having their candy sales and any other "this weekend only" sales. I've caught on to them now. They ALWAYS have sales.

But as shoppers--we like to "believe" we are saving money. The sales seem to occur everyday of the year somewhere.

Have you ever seen one of those "90% off" stores...they claim that everything in the store is 90% off. Well what they do is mark the darn thing up so high.....that the reduced rate is what the item would cost at Walmart. It's pretty sad--b/c the stuff is nothing but complete junk. The one store I saw ended up closing down.

New cars, new furniture, & jewelry are things that are marked up so high that there is no real "savings" for you. The store is just making less profit/commission.

As far as clothing, toys, electronics, and things you can $ave money if you keep your eyes peeled.

This is all along the lines of a news report I saw recently. It compared Walmart Groceries "every day low prices" up to regular grocery stores "sales". They said if you know how to use coupons and go when there are sales then you save more at the grocery stores then compared to Walmarts every day low prices which ARE typically lower then grocery stores.

My idea on the situation is that when i'm ready to grocery shop, I just go. Stores here don't double coupons and I don't want to know who has what on sale where when half might be at one store and half at another. I'd much rather know I am getting an every day low price on my groceries. That's why I shop at Walmart. They don't ever raise prices just to have a sale.. it's always ONE price and it's cheaper then at the grocery store. I'll spend $75 at Publix for the exact same items (maybe not brands) i'll spend $50 at Walmart.

the only ones that gain on these sales are the stores..........

I tend to think of it like the rack rates that places like Disney uses. The everyday price is to catch the few that will buy something on impulse and not shop around for better prices or sales.

The sale prices are more like what any store (and Disney) actually expects the things to sell for. The amount they get from the rack rate buyers is gravy.

The true sales are after the holidays. The "red-line" sales. Things are up to 75% off during January and February. I've gotten $200 coats for $40!!!
