I'm glad you liked it. All the recipes are YUMMY, I promise! Hawaiian bread is a sweet bread that people sometimes "hollow" out and fill with dip.

Dutch Split Pea Soup

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

1 pound leeks
1/2 pound bacon -- chopped
2 cups celery -- chopped
1 large onion -- chopped
1/4 cup chopped parsley
1 pound green split peas -- sorted and rinsed
1 quart chicken broth
1 pound kielbasa -- sliced 1/2" thick

Cut off and discard though green tops, outer leaves and root ends from the leeks. Split leeks lengthwise and rinse well. Slice thinly and set aside.
In a 5-6 quart pan over med-high heat, stir bacon often until brown. Transfer bacon with slotted spoon to paper towels, set aside.
Discard all but 2 tablespoons fat from pan.
To pan, add leeks, celery, onion and chopped parsley. Stir often over med. heat until vegetables are limp, about 15 minutes. Return bacon to pan with split peas, broth and 1 quart water. Bring to a boil over high heat. Cover and simmer until peas are mostly dissolved, about 1 1/2 hours. Stir occasionally. Add kielbasa. Stir often until sausage is hot, about 10 minutes longer.


NOTES : I sometimes use lean ham instead of bacon.

My package was posted today and is going south west of me.

And it made it!!

I got some cool stuff!!

9 different recipes printed up and in sheet protectors:
Tortelli Skewers
Ginger snaps
rice pilaf
Easy pot roast of beef (or pork)
Potted cheese
Cheddar twisters
Meatloaf in the round
Colourful bean and corn salad
Lemon Squares

I cannot wait to try all of these especially the tortellini skewers and the lemon squares. Although I have a question: is "icing sugar" powdered sugar?

I also got some fun goodies including probably the only 2 kitchen gadgets I didn't already have :
a Clean-a-Way disk (always wanted to try, but never have; does it really work?)
a small grater for nutmeg and parmesean cheese
a pack of holiday recipe cards
a hot plate with a cool picture (bowl of lemons) on it
a package of holiday wine charms (how did you know I am a wino?? ) which will find a home on my holiday wine glasses
and because all Canadians are hockey fans, a Toronto Maple Leafs hand towel!
