Has anyone stayed at the Holiday Inn Express? We're looking for a non-smoking room. Is this place clean, and quiet? I'm told they offer a continental breakfast...any comments?

Unfortunately (after repeatedly checking), the Radisson only is offering smoking rooms for the night before our Feb. cruise.

Thanx for your help!

I've heard nothing but good reports about the Holiday Inn Express. Note... this is NOT true of the Holiday Inn Oceanfront!

The HI Express is reasonably new and appears to be in good shape. The only bad thing I can say about it is that it's on the wrong side of A1A and about two blocks from the beach.

Good morning,
The Holiday Inn Express is a nice place - it is on A1A and traffic can be tough, but you have a Perkins, Durango Steak House and soon to be (next year from what I understand) a Publix right next door - Our Saviour Catholic Church is on the West side of the Holiday Inn Express - you are 2 blocks from the Cocoa Beach Pier and exalty 2 blocks from where I live - in fact I can stand on my front porch and wave to you :D ---------
If you would like some brochures etc on it, just drop me a note at snelsonbrown@aol.com.
Always
Shirley

We appreciate your help. Shirley, I'll be waving back! BTW, DD5 is already talking about going to your "magical fairy wishing fountain"!

Hey PP,
I have told that little story to my own kids and grands and GREAT grands and they all really got a charge out of it - I remember when she said she wanted an elephant - all I could think of was how can we get out of this and come to find out, she wanted a stuffed one - WHEWWWWW - out of the mouth of babes - come on by anytime - as my dad use to say "you are as welcomed at the April rain that brings May's flowers" -----chat with ya soon
Hugsssss from me to you and family
Always
Shirley

HIE is less than 2 blocks from me - walking distance so just give me a call when you are coming down

We stayed there the night before our cruise in June, 2001. It is a very nice place. If we weren't planning to stay in Kissimmee pre cruise this time I would stay there again. It's not far from the port at all.

What about that comment about the Doubletree?? Is it really that bad-It sounded pretty nice from what I have read? We are staying over Thanksgiving at the Doubletree.

My husband sponsored a convention there and was very disappointed; the hotel was very smokey; even in the non-smoking rooms; the conference rooms had poor air conditioning and the service was rather bad. He said never again and he likes the Radison much better. We have experienced some problems at the Radison in the past, but the management tries to take care of problems and they are much more pleasant to deal with.
We had a problem a year ago also at Doubletree; we guaranteed our room with American Express; arrived around 8 and were told our room (an upgraded one) was given to someone else and we would have to take a standard smoking room. They said sorry; gave us cookies and we left and were lucky to get a room at the Radison which was quite nice-- an "evergreen" room (has an air cleaner in it and water purifier) for much cheaper. We should have known never to go back to the Doubletree. They are real poor business people, because my husband's conference will be going to Florida a lot--more than once a year and my husband and his boss have relatives closeby so have a reason to pick a hotel or conference center located near there.
I would not stay there; there has to be better places at Cocoa Beach and I know Melbourne Beach Quality Suites was quite nice 8 years ago. I know that is far away, but I personally like that beach better.

Yikes! Well, I'm a firm believer that most hotels have a bad day now and then. We've stayed at a couple of different Doubletrees, so I hope it's okay. Every room is supposed to have an oceanview, so hopefully it will be okay.

Get there early and you are more likely to get a non-smoking room if you have requested one. They told us they never guarantee a non-smoking room, but of course our's was upgraded and guaranteed to a charge card as well and central reservations said it would be non-smoking. They re-neged on the better room and the non-smoking as well; we got there at about 9PM I think.
I was not impressed with the lobby etc; it was dated.
Their deal is they have oceanviews and they think that makes up for the poor service, etc. In my view, it does not; I would rather stay in a newer, cleaner, nicer hotel and walk a block to the beach athough I love the ocean!
I can see the Disney Magic from my room at the Radison and that truly makes me happy.
The first time we visited the Radison we were not cruising; just seeing the ship made us want to cruise and we did later, as a result.
Kelsey's Resturant next door to the Radison is really reasonable and great for family dining too. We eat there a lot--at least a dozen times and have never been disappointed and usually see the same help--our waitress is from Poland (I think)and really pretty and friendly. Starts your vacation off right!
Good luck with your choice; it is never too late to change.:smooth:

Does anyone know if the Holiday Inn Express is walking distance to Ron Jon's Surf Shop? Also has anyone ever stayed at The Inn at Cocoa Beach? Is it an appropriate place for children? Thanks in advance.

DH and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express the night before our cruise this April. It was very clean and the folks very freindly and helpful. We had a non-smoking room. The free breakfast was the standard HI express type food. Fruit, cinnamon buns, danish, dry cereal, muffins, etc.
I would stay there again.
It is about a mile walk to Ron Jons.

Ron Jon's is a little less than a mile each way, along a busy highway.

The Inn at Cocoa Beach? Is it an appropriate place for children?
How old are your children? The Inn at Cocoa Beach is very nice, but if I were staying with children under 12, I'd probably choose another property.

I have two girls who will be 13 and 16 when we go. They are pretty mild mannered. The older has allergies and severe asthma so I am looking for something as clean and mildew free as possible. I know this can be difficult in warmer climates. This sounds like it may be a good place for us! The younger one wants to try to surf and this hotel sounds like it is close to the ocean and Ron Jon's-two HUGE pluses! Dave- Have you seen the inside yourself? Thanks for all your advice.

Yes, I have. I was quite impressed. It's very nice. And yes, it's close to the ocean and to Ron Jon's.
