Ok...I did a little research on the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay of the Haunted Mansion. I don't know what to think about it.

I love the original HM, but I'm usually pretty open to new stuff too.

What do you people think of it?

I'd like to know what I'm seeing when I'm on the ride, so I guess I'll have to watch the movie now, although I'm not a Tim Burton fan at all.

We love the holiday version. But, we are also huge Nightmare Before Christmas fans too.

Yea like Spazzyjazzy said. i have only seen the outside of it a few years ago. I so help they do the MGM overlay thats been rumored for the past few years.

I am NOT a Nightmare Before Christmas fan, but I LOVE Haunted Mansion Holiday! They do so many really fun things in transforming the ride. The rhyming narration is really well done. And the stained glass panels in the Stretching Room. And the singing pumpkins in the graveyard scene...and the flying skeletal reindeer...and the festive ballroom scene with the added room.

I don't think you need to see the movie to enjoy the ride - it really has nothing to do with the story of Nightmare Before Christmas. Before they opened it for the first time I went to a special opening presentation, and they said the imagineers' premise in designing the overlay was: "What would happen if Jack Skellington and his Halloween town gang came to decorate and the first house they came to was the Haunted Mansion"?

I agree with ScooterL; I had never seen the movie but loved the decorations and "theme" of the Holiday Haunted Mansion. Actually, I like it better than the "normal" theme. When we returned from Disneyland in October, I went out and rented the movie and hated it! We are going back to Disneyland in October, and the Holiday Haunted Mansion is on my must do list; actually we want to ride that ride several times. :)

I love the Haunted Mansion, and I love Haunted Mansion Holiday for 3 months a year.

So well done! :cool1:

I love the whole seasonal attraction, beginning to end!

I actually prefer the Haunted Mansion Holiday over the regular! It's so much fun and creative I think. I don't wanna say too much as not to give away any surprises. It's great though, the lines are super long though so definitely fast pass it.

We are going to DL in October and I am not that excited about the Nightmare overlay (but, then again, I haven't seen it yet). I grew up in Orlando and grew up with the "regular" Haunted Mansion at WDW. I would love to see the regular version at DL (it was under refurb on our last trip) -- but I'm sure it will still be fun in October. I've heard both positive and negative about the overlay, so I guess we'll just have to see . . .

We love it, part of the reason why were going in October this year. It's beautiful! LOL All through it we just kept saying "Oh look how cool!" We love the original, but the Holiday version is worth seeing for sure!

I actually love the original - and am very excited to be going in June this year - we have not seen the original since 2005 and I miss it a lot!!! I don't dislike the holiday version - but it is not my favorite!

Love the holiday version ! I would watch the movie though, you might even like it ! The IASW overlay is also phenomenal. I like both holiday versions better than the originals

My preference is for the original. I love the new attic scene in the original version. I get tired of the holiday version really quick.

Honestly I cant stand the Nightmare before Xmas movie! I found it so boring and way too weird for my liking, but thats just me. Maybe im just weird, but as for the ride itself I found it fun. I havent seen the ride in its natural (off holiday) state, so I have nothing to compare it to. The holiday ride itself was a blast.

The outside of the house has pumpkins and spider webs all over it and makes it look really halloweenish, and has a pumpkin skeleton on a pole and such, but its so toonish that you have to love it.

Other things are when you are getting onto the doom buggies there is a whole display of presents and such in the fashion of the movie with weird creatures from the movie poking out of them, but they are still toonish that you dont mind it. The same goes for the attic scene with the presents with weird creatures.

As you go into the graveyard, you will find a big anamatronic of Jack the Skeleton in a santa suit, and as you leave the graveyard you find the big blobby green dude from the movie.

Really I didnt mind the ride even though it took on a Tim Burton theme. I still went onto the ride a million times because, some how I didnt feel it was as close to the movie as it could have been. I think its cause they also wanna keep it similar to the real haunted house.

The only thing that I didnt care for too much was the fact that they mixed ghosts from the haunted house with creatures from the Tim Burton movie. You go from the ball room filled with human ghosts into a world of Tim Burton. :confused3

I like the movie and really like the overlay but have seen it the last three visits to DL....looking forward to seeing the original again in July!

Not a big fan of the movie, but you don't have to be. The overlay is fun and definitely not disappointing. You will enjoy it thoroughly, for all of the reasons described above and more.

Actually I've never seen the movie. The Haunted Mansion is my favorite ride and always has been. We used to visit DL in September for our anniversary, once we had our daughter we moved the trip to October and so we miss the regular HM. I love them both actually, they are so completely different it's amazing. I miss seeing my regular ride when the overlay is there but when it's not I miss seeing that as well. Both are fantastic and completely enjoyable even if you've not seen the movie. For the record, my 2 year old prefers the Holiday overlay.

I'm in the minority but I didn't like it at all...hadn't seen the movie, had no idea what was going on...don't like all the blacklight colors. It just seems like another dark ride like Pinocchio or Alice....

But I like Tim Burton and I found the movie at an estate sale for $1 so I'm going to give it a whirl and see if this year it makes more sense!

I just came back from DL and got to go through HM several times and this was the first time we had seen the most recent updates as last time was the Holiday version and time before that, HM was closed for Holiday removal.
I loved the new effects and theming...Leota's daughter did a fantastic job. We just went back and forth between HM and POTC...it was great with no lines in the AM!

We've seen the "Nightmare" version twice, and I have to admit that I really like the original much better!

I am so excited to see the Holiday overlay sense this will be the first time for us to see it. I love the regular one but from what I hear the Holiday version is great!
