Holiday destination suggestions needed

I'll be coming on holiday for 3 weeks to the US in July with my hubbie and 2 kids, aged 12 and 9. We're staying in Orlando for 2 weeks and we were wondering where best we should spend the other week. We were thinking of either a beach holiday in Florida (but where?), the Florida Keys or Mexico. We'll be flying through New York, so we thought it would be better to concentrate on the East Coast only for this holiday - don't want to waste too much time travelling. Any suggestions from you guys would be greatly appreciated!

I like the gulf more than the ocean in Florida - so Panhandle area - Destin, Fort Walton, Panama City Beach

if you don't mind a little traveling - then Hilton head, South Carolina - now this is the ocean - but a bit tamer than the one in Florida.

if you want something closer to Orlando - then St Peterburg beach, Tampa, Clearwater beach.
