Do you buy certain items annually during the holiday season that you don't splurge on during the rest of the year?

We always order a Honeybaked ham, pears from Harry&Davids and honeybelles to have delivered prior to Christmas.

I only buy jumbo lump crabmeat at the holidays.

At anywhere from 15.00-20.00 a lb it only gets done once a year lol!

I make a green goddess crab dip with it, the big lumps of crabmeat are heavenly , I also make a corn and crab bisque for xmas day, but this year I think I will do a seafood gumbo instead and it will have crabmeat in it too.

Herring in cream sauce is the main thing I only splurge on during the holiday season. Also Peppermint Mocha coffee creamer, if I can find it (I found ONE bottle at Target a couple days ago), also a few different kinds of candy like the chocolate covered jelly sticks, and truffles, etc.

Oh, and fresh citrus (red grapefruit, navel oranges and tangeloes) from the school's FFA club.

I buy a lot of stuff for my annual Christmas Eve party that we wind up enjoying for a month or so. My favorite "leftovers" are:

Bailey's Irish Cream
Freixinet Champagne
Perugina (or Other) Fine Chocolates

Hey, I bought probably 3 of these the other day because people on here were raving about it. I like it....a little:upsidedow. Actually not so crazy about it. But it won't go to waste. Yesterday I bought one of the White Chocolate Raspberry creamers, now that is DELISH!!!!! That is one I will definitely stock up on!!!!

I am splurging on the Slatkin & Co Home Fragrance Oils they sell at BBW's. They are on sale right now for $4!!!!

I love a good seafood gumbo with a lot of crabmeat in it. How do you make green goddess crab dip, if you don't mind sharing? It sounds heavenly.

I forgot to add that I also love the peppermint ice cream from Schwann's. Talk about yummy.

Not really a splurge but my family looks forward to Peppermint Joe Joe's from Trader Joe's.

My hubby likes peppermint ice cream, and we can only find it around the holidays.

I buy See's candy for everyone I know. I can't eat it because of allergies so I buy myself a big box of their lollipops and don't share with DS. I also allow myself 1 Starbuck's peppermint mocha WITH whipped cream.

Definitely, we do numerous splurges for holdiays, be it food wise or nice gifts for each other :thumbsup2. Had our share of hard times when younger and enjoying reaping a few rewards in our golden years. Life is too short not to splurge once in awhile! :goodvibes

I'd be happy to take those Peppermint Mocha creamers off your hands, even the partially used one! :lmao:

They are just so hard to find around here, and I only go into town once a week. :( Maybe I should start going more often, and see if I can find more. I even went to Amazon to see if I could order a case of it to be shipped to my home, nope. Went to the creamer's own web site to see if they would send me some, nope can't do that either so I'll just have to keep trying to find it.

We don't really splurge on food much, other than the 5-lbs of shrimp for our low country boil on Christmas Eve. Our big splurge is tickets to the Atlanta Ballet Nutcracker, opening weekend. It's the best Nutcracker i've ever seen. They stick to the original Russian story and the costumes are Russian, very sumptuous. All the prinicpals dance that weekend and they have an orchestra rather than taped music. It is a very fulfilling experience. Plus, I get to go with my DD16. We dress up in formal outfits, fix our hair, get pedicures. This year my mother will be here for one of DDs performances, so I think we will take her with us the next night to see the Nutcracker. My dad was 1st generation American of Russian parents and remained Russian to his dying day, so Mother will really like to see the beautiful this ballet.:lovestruc

DVC Sadie, I sent you the recipe!

OH, thanks a lot. It is very much appreciated.

I wish you lived closer because I could show you where to buy fresh shrimp right off the boat for approximately 5.50 to 6.00 per pound for jumbo.

I just love reading everyones posts about holiday traditions and how they celebrate either with food or doing anything else annually.

I am lucky enough to have friends and get that good deal on shrimp too, always buy enough to last a long time. Unfortunately I just cant find anyone to shell crabs for me LOL so Im stuck paying that high price, but it is sooo worth !

Eggnog - and I bake a gazillion Christmas cookies with my DGD (it's our annual tradition - just her and I).. Throughout the year I bake other things, but NEVER cookies! :thumbsup2

*Candles in holiday scents
*ingredients for all the cookies I bake
*expensive chocolate for stocking stuffers
*peppermint stick ice cream (I am allergic to ice cream so it is a real treat)
*like someone else's idea of See's candy or Mrs. Prindables (she is on QVC tonight so I may have to watch)
*a hardcover Christmas book to add to my collection
*peach blossom candies

wreaths (I don't buy them every year only when the budget allows)
This year a trip to Disney to see the decorations.
Our first year in our new house so maybe some Christmas decorations.
