WE are scheduled to arrive at BWV on April 17-22.

We may have to cancel!!! I understand that since I am under 30 days my points go into a holding account. With that, I must make my ressies 60 days or less prior to the end of my use year. My use year is June!!!!

Prior to the end of the use year???? Does that mean June 1 or June 30.

We would not be able to go until the end of June if at all!!

Can anyone clarify this how this scenario would work out???

thanks

If you have a June Use Year, it ends on May 31 and any holding account points would need to be used by that date.

This is an example of the one time Use Year is important - when a reservation has to be cancelled on short notice. In this case, you are past your banking deadline and have only about 70 days to use the holding account points before they expire.

If you are sure you will be unable to use your reservation or any cancelled Holding Account points, you might consider posting your reservation on the Rent/Trade Board to try to get some return for your points. In this case, the points can't even be used to make a reservation at a non-DVC resort after March 31. DVC points can't be used to make a reservation and travel to a non-DVC option within 60 days of the end of the Use Year.

Good luck!

I would definitely try to post the reservation to the rent trade board before I cancelled. I have been trying to book the a reservation at one of the "Big Three" (BWV, BCV or VWL) for the last few weeks during the month of may and few studios are left. If this is a studio reservation I don't think you will have any trouble finding a taker. However, rebooking for later, i.e. May, may be difficult. I hope you get to go.

Is there something in the Conceirge Collection that could work - for a long weekend maybe? Better than losing the points. You just have to act quickly if yo go that route. If you want to use the points for a non-DVC option, you need to make the reservation before the end of March. You cannot both book and stay at a non-DVC option during the last 60 days of your use year.

Another option is to donate the reservation if yo can't use it for its original purpose.

You could also ask MS if you have any options for a late deposit into II

Sorry you may have to cancel - hope it works out!

Best wishes -

Carol, my understaning is that holding points can't be deposited in II.

Sounds right - just seemed like it was worth a question to MS.

Best wishes -

It doesn't help much in this case but to clarify I believe holding points can be used to make a reservation within 60 days of the actual reservation and not within 60 days of the end of the use year.

RENT! But don't give away how distressed the reservation is. Just say, I have this to rent, for this much. Fabulous location, perfect time of the year -- all this can be yours!

Even if those are not precisely the dates someone is looking for, you may be able to modify the reservation and make all parties happy.

That would be short notice deposit and have a lot of restrictions. It's not worth much and you can't just convert a current reservation to a deposit. I'd try to rent if you can, assuming you do have to cancel. There's no advantage to canceling now rather than a couple of days before, the penalty is the same.

Reservations outside of DVC cannot be made in the last 60 days. DVC resorts can be made right up to the end of the use year.

Now I am confused..........................

can I use the Conceige Collection or am I just limited to the DVC properties.

I am soooooooooooo stressed over this!!! ugh!!! I hate to lose 200 pts.!!!

Assuming you're making reservations at 60 days our less and prior to the end of your use year you can use them for CC, DC, Adventurer Collection, World Passport (including II and BVTC) and DVC. As noted on a recent thread, I believe they can be transferred as well if not banked or borrowed points.

RBUZZ,

I think you are getting so much conflicting information here, you really need to call member services, give them your specific situation, and ask them what the options are.

The problem with these threads is often that people read the initial post, read none of the replies, and then post their answer to what they think they heard you ask. In that case, you get a ton of similiar info, all of which sounds a little different...which may or may not be a) different, or b) accurate. Call MS.

The other things I'd suggest regarding your Rent/Trade post. Lose the "Had to cancel at the last minute" part. That just tells potential renters you're desperate. You may be, but "never let 'em see you sweat!"

The other rental thing is, if you don't get a taker on the existing reservation pretty quick, I'd also list the 200 points by themselves. Be sure to put the expiration (but..."don't let 'em see you sweat - here's what I have, they expire xx/xxxx). You may find it easier to break the points up and unload them that way.

I'd love to see you sell the whole reservation, but not everybody is looking for a 2 Bedroom for those specific days.

You've got several things effecting this reservation -- as Doc said, the one time Use Year really comes into play is when you have a short notice cancellation at the end of your Use Year.

#1. Cancelling at 30 days or less puts the points in Holding.

Holding points can be used to make any type of reservation. But, the reservation can only be made 60 days or less prior to your arrival date.

Holding points can't be banked or borrowed.

#2. Reservations for anything but the DVC resorts can't be made during the last 60 days of your Use Year. You could travel during that time but the reservation has to be made before you hit the 60 days to end of Use Year mark.

So, at this point you only have until March 31 to make a non-DVC reservation that starts at 60 days or less from the day you reserve and is over by May 31.

Basically, a DVC reservation is your best bet at this point....and rental or gift to friend or family should probably be considered if you know you won't be able to travel.

It's a bummer!

While I agree it would be good to call MS, I think the chances of getting the true answer are actually better here than on a random phone call to MS. The OP should decide what they want to do before they call.

Thank you everyone!!

We are trying one last time to convince MIL to get in our SUV and drive. She agreed when we decided to take her but is now frightened to get in our SUV (she had a stroke 6 years ago and it is a Suburban).

WE are going to try to get her in the SUV today (which really isn't too bad she is just afraid!) and if so................then we all go. It is not a problem of the ride it is just getting her in and out of the Suburban!!!

Keep your fingers crossed...................we make the final decision tonight as I have a few offers!!!

Thanks again everyone for your valuable (and yes, some confusing!! LOL!!) advice. It is much appreciated!!!

This is not a teaser for a sequel to National Lampoon's "Vacation," is it? I can just see MIL riding in her rocker on the roof of the Suburban down I-95!

If you do that, let me know your itinerary -- I want to get some video! :rotfl2:
