Holding points confusion

So we have a reservation for Dec 2-5 at GF (UY Aug 2024 points). There is a chance that we have to cancel but if I understand correctly the points would go into holding and have to be used before the end of the year since I am under 31 days of cancelation. I will know more next week after doctor appt but wondering how to handle if I cannot go and use before year end. TIA

Holding points have to be used by the end of the UY the reservation is in, not by the end of the calendar year. So August 2024 points can be used through the night of July 31, 2025. But you can’t book the replacement reservation until 60 days or less from checkin for that reservation.

I guess I read the rules as used by the end of the original reservation year which would be Dec 31st, 2024. It’s actually a little more flexible- it’s a rolling 60day window. So if you canceled today and your points go into holding, you can book a trip for January 1st or earlier, right now. Or you can book a stay for July 1st, 2025, but you can’t book it until May 1st, 2025. If you want to book another trip for Feb 2nd, you can do so starting Dec 2nd, when you hit the 60 day window. The points fully expire on July 31st, 2025.
