Holding Point Question

I have read through old postings and I think I understand what happens if I cancel a reservation. Here is a brief synopsis of my situation- we bought into DVC last April with VWL as our home resort. We got 2009 points which I banked into 2010 points and then we got our 2010 points in September I think because that is our use year (we bough 100 points). I made a reservation for this February for a 1 br at VWL which cost 275 points so I had to borrow 75 from 2011 too. All that being said my husband works at the sheriff's office and they only get their work schedule at the very end of the month for the following month. He has asked for the vacation time but there is no guarantee and we won't know until the last few days of this month which would put us in the less than 30 day cancellation window. So if I understand correctly the points will go into holding status with all the points expiring at the end of August- however I could still bank the 2010 points as long as I do it before it is 4 months out? I know I can't do anything with the borrowed 2011 ones or the banked 2009 ones. But, if we are able to go say this summer what would the chances be for me to get a reservation somewhere within that 60 day window. I know Easter time would probably be impossible but do you think I would be able to get a reservation for 7 days somewhere at 60 days out? I am praying this situation doesn't happen but just in case it does I want to know my options. Thanks for your help!

With in 30 days of the reservation all points will go into holding. None of those points will be able to be banked. So from now to the end of August you will need to use those points that were allocated to cover your February reservation.

Yes, I think you would be able to get a reservation within 60 days for sometime this summer, especially if you are flexible with your resort choice and dates.

Good luck - hope your husband is able to get away for your February vacation.

P.S. I agree with the previous poster. All the points used for the February reservation will go into holding status if you cancel 30 days or less from arrival. None of them will be bankable. The original use year of those points won't matter.

Thanks for your responses. I think I knew that about holding points but was thinking of what happens if you cancel prior to 30 days and got confused. I am keeping my fingers crossed for February but if not we will have to this summer I guess. This is so unfair- how can people ever plan anything when they do this?

We dealt with holding once, and it was also in the summer. I do not remember having any issues with the timing. Good luck!
