I am in a quandry and know you all can help me out.

We have a vacation booked for April (10 nights) and are considering canceling. We used borrowed points for this trip and I am pretty sure if we cancel points go into holding account? If they are in a holding acct. can we use them as a II trade?

Specifically we want to try for a local (New England) summer vacation.

We plan to call MS on Monday to inquire but I don't have much patience.

As an FYI - We are not opposed to renting the original reservation as renting has gone very well for us but I am trying to see what all of our options are?

Thanks,
Carolyn

Holding account is only if cancelled within 30 days. In your situation they would stay in the current use year (as unicumbered points). They can not be returned to there original use year and can not be banked.

You would have until the end of your UY to use them and could reserve with the regular 11/7 booking window.

Hope that helps
Sandy

So let me get this straight!

Because they are borrowed really doesn't matter. They are now technically for our '03 UY which ends Nov. 30!

I can actually cancel this reservation and just rebook or trade?

With that being said, what are my chances for getting a II trade for the New England Summer?

Thanks Sandy for your very quick response!

Anyone ever trade to a resort in New England? We are looking for at least a 2 bedroom for 7 nights? I will look in our book tonight but anyone with experience out there?

Very slim for a decent resort but you never know unless you try. You could also deposit with II and have that for later even if you don't match for this summer. Good luck.

So, How far in advance would I need to look for a summer vacation?

If it is very slim, am I better off looking 1yr. 2 yr. in advance?

I think we may look into going July 4th to DVC and next summer to Vermont.

I am interested in knowing however has anyone gone to a New England resort before? Which one?

Thanks.

You should always start at least a year out. You can always try on shorter notice but your chances of anything high demand will be much less.
