Quick question. I know if I cancel a reservation within 30 days my points go into a holding account and must be used by end of the UY.

My question is this... If I cancel a ressie and my points go into holding, can I reallocate my holding points to another already existing reservation within the UY or do I have to make a brand new reservation with the points in holding?

Only if Member Services is showing that the room is available for a new reservation within 60 days of check-in.

In other words, you would have to be able to book a new reservation inside of 60 days, and then they could probably re-allocate the points. If there was no way to book a new reservation, then they should not reallocate the points, otherwise it defeats the purpose of having a holding account.

Not only does the reservation have to be in the 60 day window... but it must be outside the 30 day window.. If avaliability allowed the reallocation to happen one would simply trading holding points for holding points.

As long as it's within 60 days, there is no requirement for a 30 day limitation. 60 days is when the breakage period begins, so any unreserved DVC villas are also available for cash stays thru DRC/CRO.

Holding Account points may be used right up until arrival day - based on availability. At times, MS has been generous about such reallocations, so it can't hurt to ask but , in general, they won't reallocate Holding Points unless there is already availability for a reservation using points.

I interpreted ArtieMcD's post to mean that there is no reason to reallocate points if the reservation that has the "good points (not in holding status) is inside of 30 days. Wouldn't the points that are returned to your account go into holding since the change is happening inside 30 days? As he says, you'd just be trading holding points for holding points.
