Holding Account Points

OK.....
I made reservations for some friends for the end of April. There is a CHANCE they are not going to be able to go. We are now within the 30 days cancellation period. That means the points would roll over to a holding account.

Can I......

1. Change the reservation dates to fit my needs, as long as it is before the end of this use year. (which would be July 31)

2. Change the reservation to my name, or just leave it in their name?

3. Alter the reservation room request if I need to (i.e.: change locations, or room type).

I have been a member of the DVC since November 2002. This is all so new to me.

You can make a reservation for other dates (subject to availability), but you can only do so 60 days or less ahead of your arrival date. The stay must end on or before July 31. Holding account points do expire at the end of the use year. They cannot be banked, borrowed or transferred.

Since you are the owner/member, you may change the name on the reservation to yours (or anyone else's for that matter. Helpful if you decide to rent the reservation).

3. Alter the reservation room request if I need to (i.e.: change locations, or room type).

If you change room sizes or resorts, you will actaully have to cancel the original ressie and make a new one. Thus, you are subject to the restrictions of the holding account. (Question #1). If you are just wanting to change the smoking or view requests, you can do that without any problems.

Hope things work out for your friends so none of this is necessary.

Since they are your points, you may change the name on the reservation to meet your needs. At this time, you can make another reservation, using those points, only for dates within 60 days- which is how the Holding Account works.

You will need to use or rent those points for a reservation ending by July 31 (if your Use Year is August).

Basically, any change you make to that reservation (except a name change or request) would involve cancelling and using the points thru the Holding Account, but you may make them for any room type, resort or DVC program within the next 60 days. So, as of today, you can make a reservation thru June 2, 2003.

Sorry to disagree but it is true they can not be banked or borrowed (just impossible since they are current) but they ARE transferable. I have bought this type of point and just spoke to Ingrid at MS to confirm. The do transfer as holding points and technically maintain original use year (though Gina at MS said she can't see that on any screen ).

It at leasts gives you one other option.

I just got off the phone with membership services regarding the cancellation policy. The policy as stated above is correct, however, there is a temporary change. Due to the war and travel concerns she indicated Disney is waiving all penalties for cancelling reservations. I was floored when they told me this. However, this is subject to change at any time. The reason for this is due to people being scared to travel at this time. So from what I was told, if you cancel now your points now or the day before your reservation then they would go back into your account as they were before you made your reservation. I called regarding this because I wanted to purchase travel insurance for my upcoming trip in May and this is what I was told. I asked her if they think this will change any time soon and she said she was unsure. But, they don't expect it to change until the war is over (or at least that is what she said) or until travel concerns subside. So I don't think it will be necessary for me to purchase travel insurance due to this. Please let me know if anyone has heard different.
