My DFIL and DMIL were scheduled to go to HHI Oct. 27. Unfortunately DMIL fell and may need surgery on her knee and they have to cancel. This will put my points into a holding account. They want to go in May of next year. First, since I am new to the holding account I can't make a reservation until 60day out from the check in date right?
Second, how hard will it be to get a studio at HHI in the first or second week of May 60 days out?

Check OUT date. All DVC ressie dates are from check OUT; that's why people call "day-by-day" during peak periods.

Can't help you with your availability question, but someone who goes to HHI a lot will be able to help.

I must be reading this wrong then:

What you need to know about using Holding Account Vacation Points:

You can use these Vacation Points for a new Disney Vacation Club Resort reservation during your current Use Year as long as you book the reservation 60 or less days before the new check-in date.

Actually May should be a pretty good time.

The resort is usually pretty full in April, between Easter, spring breaks, and the PGA tournament. Then it usually slows waaay down till late May (around Memorial Day), when schools in the South start to get out for the summer.

You can call at any time to check availability, so that you're less likely to have any big surprises when you are able to book. ;)

Holding points are 60 days from check-IN. That is when they release unreserved rooms to CRO (breakage), so it's only fair.
