Holding a spot in line for a ride? Is it okay?

Does DL allow group members to hold a spot in line while waiting for a ride? Are there rules against this? If I send my husband to run and get a fastpass while me and the kids wait in line for a ride, can he then join us in the line when he returns?

I don't think there's a rule but some frown on it. I wouldn't have a problem with a husband rejoining the line. I would have a problem if 1 person waited in line for an entire group of people join at the end

This is generally the consensus regarding line holding. Keep in mind that there are some queues that make it hard to catch up to the rest of the family, but most are okay.

This is one of those subjects that folks are quite passionate about on both sides of the fence. Some will say, your FP runner should sit out the ride or you should wait for him. Others will say, like the previous PP, it is fine as long as it is only 1. You have decide what you are comfortable with. We don't line save, even for just one and even if the other 5 or 7 or us are already in line. Only exception for my family is if a little one has to go to the bathroom and we're in a really long line that we can get back into without too much trouble. But that is just us.

I honestly don't care if it's 1 person, but if 1 person is saving for 6, that's not right or fair.

Personally, I don't have a problem with 1 person or say someone had to take the kids to the restroom & then catch up b/c we all know that happens. What I cannot stand, as PP mentioned, is when a lone person is holding a place for their entire group, especially when it's a LARGE group. Drives me bananas.

We saw this happen repeatedly last week, with multiple people cutting in line to join their group. One family of 4 entering Peter Pan ahead of us, actually left their toddler in the stroller alone at the entrance, continued through the line while using a walkie talkie to ask the rest of their group who were coming through the castle to grab the kid, then the other 4 or so cut in line with the toddler.

Everyone in the lines just ignored the line cutters on all occasions. Rude people generally don't care if they are being rude, and it's only a ride at DL, no reason to get all worked up about it. It is amazing though to see what some people think is acceptable behavior.

In all fairness it's acceptable behavior because everyone accepted it.

I dont mind just one person, like everyone else. Thats ok, in my book. If my hubby is a fast pass runner, and we are waiting for him, I always tell the person behind me what we are waiting for him, just so no one gets angry

We had someone in line around us actually report 3 people coming up and joining 1 person to a CM. The CM told the people that there is no rule against it and it is totally legal for them to join their party and there was nothing they could do about it.

So yes, its legal, it may no be right or fair, but it is legal.

I don't particularly like it, but not bothered enough to say anything about it to somoene in the line - it's not worth causing a fuss over.
IMO lines are not optional, if you can wait in them then you should. I don't mind a parent taking a small child to a restroom, as that's pretty unavoidable, but an adult who just has something better to do than wait in the line I'm waiting in... no... I don't think that's ok.
Could you imagine if every single party had a person rejoining them? It would be really muddled in there with people moving about. I mean, I don't like standing in line, but I also don't think I have the right to go a wander for some FPs and then expect to push past all the people who have waited in line.
Just my opinion, and I have no doubt I'll be shot down. Like I said, it's never worth causing a fuss over in the line, but on principal, I think it's unfair.

The thing is, though - you let in one person and 25 other families ahead of you let one person in, and suddenly that line is a whole lot longer.

I wouldn't say anything for one person, but when you think about how one person can add up it can add considerable time to your wait.

As others have said, I don't mind it if it's one person joining their group or somebody with a child who had to the use restroom. More than that and it annoys me. And it honestly depends on my mood whether I say anything or not.

We have had to step out of line with a child, but if they have to go prior to the ride or one of us is a FP runner, we will wait until we are all there to get in line.

I agree with the 1 person can join in with their group but more than that and it's really not fair.

Having said that - there are those who simply do not care what others around them think - so it is nice that you are considerate enough to think to ask for other people's opinion.

I guess I will swim against the tide...

No, in my opinion, no, if you want everyone in your party to ride at the same time, then you wait for all your party member's to be there, then get in line together.

The exception to this rule of course is small children/older/seniors needing to use the washroom. Adults do have bladder issues, so because of this as a rule I don't say anything.

However when it is obvious that the person is joining their party because they got a snack/got fast passes etc, ya I may say something, you (meaning general you, not you Op) may not like it, but I don't like it when other's think that their time is more important then anyone else's.

We usually travel with party's of 6 or more, we decide on which ride we are going on, and then we all go. If someone is in the washroom etc, we wait at the entrance, this is how we roll ;)

Not everyone shares this opinion, and that's okay, but no, you join the line as group.

Some people will say something though and try to ruin the day for others. I take my two children all the time, they are 8 and 12. A couple weeks ago the line for Star Tours was pretty lengthy and dd(8) couldn't hold it anymore, I asked my son to stay in line and politely told the man behind me that I would be right back, I had to take my daughter to the restroom. He just rolled his eyes at me. My dd and I ran to and back in under 5 minutes and no one had a problem letting us back in (as they all saw us leave) but the guy behind is wouldn't let me back. He said that was cutting and if I couldn't wait in line that was my problem. I told my son to come back to me and we waited the extra 45 minutes behind the man who had snide remarks the whole time.
You just can't let people like that ruin your day though. I had to keep reminding myself and children of that. So... If you do save places, just beware! :)

I've never minded when it's one person and their child. But if it's a group of people - yeah, it can get annoying.

I don't mind if its one person and what the reason it. This is because I have had numerous times where I have been waiting in line for food, fast passes, or even at ticket booths and its taken longer than I expected and I watched the line go up. (Usually this happens in the morning or after a parade) and have had to meet my group somewhere or what not. I can see how some people think it shouldn't be allowed except for bathroom emergencies but I have no problem. However the moment it is more than one person or more than a parent and their child I begin to have a problem.

Another exception to this though is when a new ride opens with a 3+ hour wait (Finding Nemo Submarines is a prime example) and you have small children and they can't stand for more than an hour/hour and a half and maybe one parent wants to take them on a ride or two in fantasy land with a 10 minute wait. Only reason I except this is because I know when Nemo opened it was a 3-5 hour wait and anyone waiting in this line was crazy as it is but I dont think anyone could possibly sit in line for this long at disneyland without wanting to get out and just go on other lines.
