Thank you so much for all of your kindness. I was prepared for all of the "you should have known better" and didn't get even one. Besides, from my self, of course! I certainly am inexperienced in this area but not what I would call niave. My quest for this dream vacation took over and I did not use my inner gut when coming to this issue. In hindsight, I do wish I had done things differently. After being away for several days, I am back and hitting this head on. I have received much helpful advise and support. Those of you kind enough to send PM's, please know that your knowledge and support have lifted me up. I am on my way to the phone right now to see if I can get any type of resolution. Quickly, any of you have any experience with third party payors? I would be willing to pay more per point if she were to let me send this payment to a secure third party and cash this after I arrive. I believe I have read about this online somewhere. She may never agree to this but thought I might get some idea before she calls me back. Also, if I can not call to verify my ressie thru MS, am I safe to assume I can no longer call to add on the dining plan a few days before I leave? This had also been my plan all along. THANKS

I'll save you the trouble. The aunt is on the deed alone, but that's really irrelevant. Obviously the niece has access to the account as far as DVC is concerned, and that's really all that matters to you.

Yes, you are correct. One of them will have to do it for you -- it has to be done through MS.

At a minimum, I'd require the owner to call DVC with me on a three way and confirm the reservation. If she's pulled something already, then you'll know before you send the money.

Yes, I have been in phone contact with the person I rented from. We have come up with a solution that works for us. I must trust that all will proceed well and that I will be checking in after our return in October to report how absolutely magical everything worked out. It's just that waiting and waiting and waiting. I was never very good at that......Heather

I'm glad it all worked out for you. In the name of "there but for the grace of God go I..." can you share with us the nature of the renters motives? That is, did you determine what the proplem was, if she was trying to con you, or her aunt, or if she was just plain old incompetent.

I don't feel I am in any position to answer as to her motives, maybe there were none. Honestly, I don't know her enough that I would be comfortable throwing out my assumptions. I have chosen to believe there was actually no "hidden agenda", just that her lifestyle is different than mine. I have lived in small town Indiana my entire life, not everyone chooses that path. Some people move frequently, some people change phone numbers, addresses, emails. I haven't but that doesn't mean that others can't or that their life doesn't require that. I am grateful that she chose to rent points and I am grateful that I am the renter of those points. If there is a next time, Yes, I will do things differently. But for now, in an effort to not continue to make myself sick with worry, I will plan to the best of my ability, follow thru with our agreement and step back. I am fully aware that I won't actually feel any relief until I check in at the resort. I am hoping for the vacation of a lifetime. My children are starting to share in the excitement, finally!, so should be easy to keep dreaming. 33 days and counting. (Boy, that sounds so much better than 400+).............Heather

My life was in complete shambles this year. Lost my health, car, apartment & job. I had no access to the internet until Aug. 2006. But, who really cares. The point is I never cancelled the Vogel's ressie nor did I ever do anything illegal. My absence? I was completely overwhelmed with where I was going to live for 6 months. I hope your life is getting better. I can understand a renter being nervous if they can't contact you by phone, email or even by "snail mail". I can particularly understand a renter being nervous when the owners name on the confirmation isn't the same as the person they are sending the money to.

Just because everything is legal and on the up and up doesn't mean a person doesn't have the right to be nervous and concerned.

rene605: I'm sorry you had so many things to deal with at once, and maybe everyone did jump to conclusions about what your intentions were, but it could have been prevented if you had followed through with the people you were renting to. I know this sounds harsh, but if it is that difficult to handle a rental transaction smoothly, have you considered selling your points? If I had as much turmoil going on in my life (especialy being homeless)...that's what I'd do. Regardless, I hope you are able to pull things together and get your life back in order as I'm sure it's been tough.

She can't the points are owned, or maybe co-owned, with her aunt.

As a person who's rented I'd be very reluctant to make any payment to anyone but the DVC owner that's listed on the reservation. This transaction is adding an additional level of trust.
