Hold my hand, Again.......Please

WOW! Just goes to show, no good deed goes unpunished!

My life was in complete shambles this year. Lost my health, car, apartment & job. I had no access to the internet until Aug. 2006. But, who really cares. The point is I never cancelled the Vogel's ressie nor did I ever do anything illegal. My absence? I was completely overwhelmed with where I was going to live for 6 months. Thanks calling ME to ask.
I'm sorry to hear about everything that you are going through. It sounds like you really need the money you can make renting out DVC points. To succeed in that business, your clients need to feel they are dealing with someone they can trust. It's very stressful to the person renting points if the owner is impossible to reach once the money has changed hands. You may be absolutely honest and trustworthy but you also need to be "business-like" and follow through in a timely manner when it comes to sending out confirmations or transferring points or whatever you've agreed to do.

I hope things turn around for you very soon.

Edited out my snarky comment because (1) I don't really have a dog in this fight and (2) I don't want to jeopardize the financial transaction of others.

ANYWAY, the Vogels SPOKE to the LISTED owner and she did not object to my making the ressie nor my collecting the money. BECAUSE though she is LISTED I paid for it.

Furthermore, you can't MAKE money renting points. The only thing you are saving is the money spent on travel & food. We do have dues to pay.

I didn't forget to send the confirmation letter. Every time the Vogels called I called DVC. The confirmation letter was to be sent to my aunt and I gave her the address of the Vogel's. DVC took forever to send it. I had to call them at least 3 times. My aunt is very responsible so,I believe her when she says she had not received it. When she received it she mailed it to the Vogels. I had no idea that it was important to the Vogels that I contact them once a month. It is true that I 've never made a ressie that far out but, the Vogels were able to check with MS at least until Aug. 2006.

I'm sorry. But, sometimes life happens and there is a ripple affect. The POINT is: The Vogel's ressie was UNAFFECTED.

Also, what's the crime in moving? Though my cellphone was off for a few days, my number was always the same. ASK THE vOGELS

Can you explain, what do you mean the Vogels were abt to call MS ?

are they dvc members? only dvc members can & get info from MS about a ressies

what do you mean by " until aug. 2006 " ? was there ressies in aug. 2006 or oct 2006 ?

Previously MS would confirm a reservation with the person on the reservation, even though that person wasn't the DVC owner. Sometime in August the policy changed and MS would only talk to the DVC owner.

rene605--I'm not sure you did anything wrong. I would have been more comfortable making payment to the actual owner but there is more than one way to handle a transaction. I hope your life is going better.

Yes, the rentee in question is correct. However, it is my understanding that she did NOT provide the phone number to MS to VogelFamily. I know this because (don't flame me!!) Heather contacted me via telephone and asked me to give it to her...she didn't feel comfortable asking the renter. I'm not contradicting rene605, I am just saying that ME, not her provided Heather with the number that she could use to verify the ressie.

Thank you, i was unaware that non DVC members were still able to call MS about there ressies. That makes sense now. ;)

Non-members are not allowed to contact MS. The call from the Vogels to MS was made several months ago, before MS stopped taking calls from non-members.

Lisa, I agree we were told this. But sometimes what MS publishes, and what they do are 2 different things. Do we have any confirmation of a renter who called MS recently to confirm and who was turned away?

Yes, I called MS in August to confirm a reservation we rented and they said they could only do it for the member. I told them I had called 2 months prior and they allowed me to just confirm, not change, anything. They told me that it was a new policy. So, I wasn't able to get any information.

However, 1 week before our trip, my husband had a chain saw accident (ugh!) and ended up in a cast. So, I had to somehow make contact with Disney so that we could get a ground floor room so he could park the ECV we rented. Our trip started on a Monday. After we got home and settled from the hospital the Thursday before, I called Member Services and said that I know that I'm not allowed to get any information....then I explained my story and said I wasn't sure I'd be able to get in touch with the owner before they closed on Friday, so was there anything they could do for me? (I was a little teary-eyed at this point) The very nice CM told me to hold on for a minute. When he came back, he said he got us a ground floor room. I was soooo thankful that they abided by the "spirit of the law" and not the "letter of the law."

If they hadn't helped me out, then I would've tried to contact the renter. This way just seemed easier and quicker at the time.

Anyways, just thought I'd share our experience.

She mentions phoning MS in this thread from back in March: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1047045&page=1&pp=15 so I just assumed (never a good thing!) that is the call to MS that is being discussed above. But this whole saga played out over 11 months so I'm not really sure.

I think the initial thread on this topic is this one from the end of 2005: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=989333

I'm confused.....Are the Vogels currently on their trip?

Yes, Diane...it appears the Vogel Family was finally able to use the ressie and is either back home or will be soon.

They stayed at BCV for several days and are now on a cruise. I saw a post she made within the last 2 or 3 days stating they had just spent a week at BCV and were just about to board their cruise.

Sorry, I must've confused everyone. The Vogels did contact me a LONG time ago to get the number. I think that is why rene605 said they could contact MS thru Aug 06. I just found it strange that this was a verification she said the Vogels had, when she never provided the Vogels the number. :confused3 I mean, if SHE had provided the number, Heather would not have been freaking out back in March.

Hey rene605 I hope things work out for you.

One suggestion I'd make if you lose internet service in the future...many public libraries have free or very cheap internet access. You might want to note the location of the nearest library with pc's. If you have wireless access on a laptop you might want to see if there is someplace nearby that offers free wireless access like a panera bread company (www.freewifi.com) . Also if you are renting and your clients have text messaging you can do free text messaging through your pc by using verizonwireless.com. At least that way you can still communicate with your renters.

PS. You might also want to limit your rental transactions to people traveling between 2 and 6 months later. A person traveling in less than 30 days has to do so entirely on faith (something they may not realize) and a person traveling 11 months later will be a burden because you will need to reassure them you are still around and their reservation is good. Its just a cost of doing business either way.
