HoJos worst?

Just checking, the family suites are all facing the freeway in Building 1, right? In other words, they are all loud?
I've stayed freeway side and had no issue with noise. If you are a super light sleeper and going when you wouldn't use the A/C you may notice it.

Wasn't that for the micechat.com Gumball Rally? If so, the people involved were very likely staying there at hojo, and had paid to use the space. (just like the Diva trips here, when they stayed at HoJo, got to use the group meeting room)
Yes it was.

Doesn't really matter who it was , the fact that they denied their paying guests use of a hotels facility without any prior knowledge is very poor and for the record I dont think they were staying at the Hotel judging by the number of complaints
They were staying there, and the only issue should be the no notice.

I'll place myself in neutral territory of the Hojo fan club. I've stayed there, it was nice, but I'd only stay there with a good deal. And now that the Retro rates are non-cancellable I doubt I'd even stay there on those. Now we'd need 2 rooms since even the family suite is listed at a max occupancy of 5 so we'll move down the street to DI&S.

I don't think they should allow any group to take over the water area, paying extra or not. Seems like it's a big reason people pick to stay there to begin with, and to not be able to use it is a bit ridiculous. Notice or no notice I would have been upset. Some people only get one vacation, and want to be able to enjoy what they thought they were paying for.

I agree. When guests are using meeting rooms it really doesn't bother anyone else, but try telling 3 year old he can't use Pirates Cove when he sees a bunch of people there and you stayed there because of Pirate's Cove. Sorry for the run on sentence.

They have 2 pools. They closed 1 of those pools for 1 day. I don't see the big deal :confused3.

You can stay a lot closer for just an average pool. I'm sure the big draw for the kids is the Pirate Cove. It isn't a big deal to me, as we didn't really enjoy our stay there for a few reasons. But I can understand what others are saying. No one group should be more important then the rest of the guests. Especially when it's the one thing a lot of people stay there for.

Now that I have stayed there I can say the pool is no longer the biggest reason I want to stay there, its the beds. So comfy.

The hojo had a pool open, so did the ten closer hotels.
The hojo may have clean rooms, so do the ten closer hotels.
The Hojo may have soft beds, so do the ten closer hotels.
The hojo may have a nice staff, so do the ten closer hotels.
The Hojo may be conviniently close by, well not as much as the ten closer hotels.

The big deal is the only great thing that makes Hojo stand out is the Pirate Cove pool area. When it's closed with no notice, rebate, or mark down, you loose out on the only truly great thing about the hotel, and have a right to be very upset.

IMO opinion if you get the entertainment rate it is a good place to stay. If you don't it is nothing special. If you are kept up by the freeway, it's one of the worse places to stay in Anaheim.

I don't see the walk as an issue when I have a 3 year old daughter who can do it without complaining.

Have you stayed at the HOJO?

The only bad thing I can think of was that the sliding glass doors on building two require your room key before 6 am. Learned the the hard way. lol Other than that, we've always enjoyed our stays there. The rooms are clean, I can being my own coffee (we have a Kuerig at home too) and the people are really nice. The walk is really manageable and I like that I can walk on the opposite side of the road as all the other hotel traffic.

I have, and I agree with what she said. I know some seem really devoted to this motel, but it's just that, a motel. The beds were nice, but we couldn't sleep because of all the noise (hallway, freeway, street noise). We didn't find the staff that nice really. The walk was okay, but after my feet started to hurt from the 10 hours in the park I was wishing we had stayed closer. The only plus I think they really have is the Pirate Cove. But to me that isn't worth staying there, we are more happier at the Tropicana or onsite. To each their own I guess.

You dont nancy ??

Maybe if you'd paid 20K and come over from Australia with young kids you might .

What the HoJo had was a very good PR programme - Lorealle popped up everywhere espousing everything good about HoJos - Whilst she was excelelnt at her job she managed to suck in so many internet forum users ( ourselves included) - now it appears she has left and people are starting to realise and question the hotel .

20k? That is an enormous sum of money to spend on a trip.

I'm with Nancy; the one day no pool for one section wouldn't have bothered me either. Most people stay there more than one night, so they could come back another time, etc.

I can't speak for Lorealle, but if I were her reading your comments, I think I would be quite averse to the comments that you are posting, saying that she "popped up everywhere espousing everything good about HoJos - Whilst she was excelelnt at her job she managed to suck in so many internet forum users ( ourselves included)"... then you continue with " now it appears she has left and people are starting to realise and question the hotel.

:confused:I'm not questioning anything. I have been there with my family once now since she left, and everything was the same high quality that I expected. Management is the same, they still care about their clients, and strive to please them by keeping up the same high quality standards as before.

For whoever called Hojo's a motel, it is not. Motels have doors from the outside leading to your room. Hotels have hallways. Whoever said it was dimly lit in the hallways, I beg to differ.... the hallways are very brightly lit, and very clean and tidy.

I am a Hojo's lover for a reason. :goodvibes

You're implying that while she posted we couldn't think for ourselves - especially the ones that have stayed at the HOJO more than once? No one's drinking the kool-aid around here and for the most part, HOJO is definitely rave worthy *with* the Ent. rate. That said - we all know it ain't the Ritz-Carlton. ;)

I think the vitriol from those who stayed during that May 2010 time period is completely warranted.

If I went on vacation, told my little kid(s), "During the week Disneyland, Saturday we'll do the Pirate's Cove, just be patient." Then late Friday night they sent me a note under my door that the super-cool looking children's splash area was closed for a scheduled private party the entire day Saturday, my heart would sink to the floor. "Sorry kids, mommy and daddy can't fix this one... these other people get to use the play area we told you we would use tomorrow." Crushing. "Just avert your eyes, son, as we walk by the people having fun, yes I know we used the last day of our park hoppers yesterday... um we'll find something fun to do, I promise. What about this deep, standard pool just like we see at home located on the other side of the property?"

I haven't stayed at HoJo in 20+ years. I can understand the disappointment if the Pirate pool would be closed for a day without warning and this thread is the perfect spot for someone to mention it. This thread about people's worst moments at HoJo. The thread is supposed to be people sharing their worst experience at this hotel. For some, their worst experience might be a light bulb out while for others it might be the pool closure. In my opinion, it kind of defeats the purpose of the thread if people are going to come here to tell others that their "worst experience" really wasn't so bad ;) I would think that even the biggest fan of HoJo has to have a "worst HoJo moment." I am a huge OU Sooner fan but I still have plenty of "worst OU moments." :(

I personally wouldn't be that upset if the pool was closed unexpectedly; I go to Disneyland knowing that any number of my favorite things might be closed or down unexpectedly. If it is closed when I am there in October, it still might rank as my worst moment even if I am not that upset. So, in my opinion, just let the "worst" moments keep coming people! So far, it is making me want to stay there more because the "worst moments" don't seem that bad to me.

I think you make an excellent point on all counts.

I think everyone needs to remember that everyone's experiences will be different & what made it disappointing will also vary, person to person. This thread is to point out things that each poster found upsetting, disgusting, unbearable, etc....but that doesn't mean it would affect you the same way.

Our family loves HoJo & not just for the Pirate's Cove. We found the rooms spacious, beds comfy, view great, walk okay, staff very helpful, mini mart had almost everything we needed, etc. But that is our experience.

My complaints: We paid for 2 view rooms & only one room had the great view, the other rooms view was blocked by trees.

The laundry room was in the basement, very small area & hot. The dryer just about cooked our clothes.

I stand corrected. But in their case, having the hallways just meant MORE noise for us. With people coming and going loudly all hours of the night. The echos just made it even more loud in the room (if it wasn't bad enough from the freeway/streets).

I'm glad you enjoy your stays there, but that doesn't mean everyone does. To the person who said we know it's not the Ritz. Hmmm I don't know, the way people are getting defensive you'd think that's exactly what they think it is! Frankly I'd rave more about staying onsite then any place on Harbor, now those rooms are nice, clean, comfortable, with WONDERFUL that Disney service.

It would be lovely in some ways to be able to have the cash to stay onsite with the WONDERFUL Disney service, but some of us on the DISboards simply can't afford that. From what I have heard on these boards, sometimes the Disneyland onsite hotels offer smaller, cramped rooms compared to Hojo's. Especially when factoring in the kid's suite at Hojo's! Hojo's is also nice, clean and comfortable. We could never justify paying such a high price on an onsite room for the same 'nice, clean and comfortable' factor when Hojo's is such a pleasure to stay at.

For every one handful of those who proclaim they don't like Hojo's, I have a hunch that there are several more handfuls of Hojo's 'cheerleaders' :cheer2: on these boards who enjoy Hojo's tremendously.

You have a right to your opinions, all of you... whether you like or dislike Hojo's for your own personal reasons. I do understand that. :goodvibes

I haven't had the privilege to stay at a Ritz Carlton so as far as I can see, Hojo's is the Ritz to me. So if that's what I sound like, maybe it's because that's what I think it is.

:flower3:
